I have sampled over 100 beers in UK. That may seem like a small number, but I just moved here 4 months back I couldn’t tell you which one of the beers I’ve tried is the best but here are my top picks & where to find them (or rather where I had them!)
- Maltsmiths IPA: It has caramel base with overlying hop notes of citrus, grapefruit, tropical fruits and a little pine for freshness. This was at the Casino when I won £40 in roulette. I ended up spending all of that at the bar.
- White Horse Bitter - Made with locally grown Challenger Hops with Yorkshire’s malt, it’s so tasty you can’t help but order another one! This was at the legendary White Horse Brewery - historical pub where famous writers met and read out their stories. They have good local ales and friendly staff.
- Lagunitas IPA - An intense hop juiciness, with white wine, gooseberry, lemon grass, pineapple, melon. Finish is balanced, with a slight lingering bitterness. This was recommended by a colleague who is from pub industry. Clearly, I am in good company.
- Silver Dollar Tyne Bank - The amber coloured American Pale Ale is highly acidic (which is enjoyable!) and bold citrus flavour. It is bitter but not too overpowering. This was offered by my agency folks in London. The perks of being a client. Just saying.
- Pravha Lager - You must have heard of this Czech pilsner which is unexpectedly crisp, light and refreshing. I like how refreshing it is on a sunny day so it made it to my list! I got it from the winter market next to the London Eye. It’s one of my favourite clicks!
That said, best beer in the world is:
…the one that tastes delicious even if it’s bitter
…the one you can order on a date
…the one you drink to celebrate when you get a promotion
….the first beer you brew yourself and is good enough to drink without falling sick
…. the one that let’s you spend a little more time with the person you’re chatting with
….the one that’s free
…. The one you have on your vacation
….the one that quenches your thirst
…the one in your hand
…the next one
Cheers!
