1 day in Edinburgh

Things I’ve learned after 1 day in Scotland:

  • The road trip from Zürich to Edinburgh takes 18 hours (but only if you can make 1500+ Km in one go)
  • My previous experiences with Scottish food were not lucky exceptions - all these lobsters-oysters-shrimps-salmons ARE really excellent!
  • It is common to spit on the Heart of Midlothian stone in Edinburgh (not to be mistaken for a famous song by Marillion). Some believe that it helps to keep away evil spirits. And some just find it funny - exactly like I did.
  • Scottish cow is called “coo”, and unicorn - aon-adharcach - is the country’s national animal (sadly I didn’t see any!)
  • If you buy a modern house from the developer, no car - except Mini-types - will fit into the garage. Therefore locals leave their vehicles outside and convert garages into rooms (facepalm!)
  • Scotland is an eternal fun (and who would doubt it!)

And I want to come back later in 2020.

Hi @Antimodel

Thanks for sharing your post. These are really cool facts of Edinburgh :slightly_smiling_face: Was this your first visit there? I find their dialect/accent a bit hard to understand, how did you manage?

What was your favorite thing about the city? I bet the streets and landscapes are really pretty!

Thank you for you question @DanniS ! I’ve been to Edinburgh before, but this trip was the most adventurous of all! Somehow their language was never a problem for me. Plus one of the locals was accompanying me

@Antimodel That’s wonderful! What would you recommend to see in Edinburgh? Discovering a place with a local is the best way.

@DanniS For a 1-day trip I will definitely recommend Edinburgh castle and a long walk around the city centre, topped by the dinner in a fine seafood restaurant
