Whoever comes to Pune usually visits all the fancy places like malls and go to places around Pune like Lavasa, Lonavla, kashid, Alibag etc but in Pune itself there are many places to visit which will give the real idea what Pune is.There are few heritage sites all located in central Pune and they're worth going. Following are few place with a bit of description.

(1) Shaniwarwada is a historical fortification in the city of Pune in Maharashtra, India. Built in 1732, it was the seat of the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire until 1818, when the Peshwas lost control to the British East India Company after the Third Anglo-Maratha War. Following the rise of the Maratha Empire, the palace became the center of Indian politics in the 18th century.

The fort itself was largely destroyed in 1828 by an unexplained fire, but the surviving structures are now maintained as a tourist site.

(2) Vishrambaag Wada, a fine masion situated at central Pune's Thorale Bajirao Road, was the luxurious residence of Peshwa Bajirao II, the last Peshwa of Maratha confederacy, in early nineteenth century. The 20,000 sq. ft. wada presently houses a post office on its ground floor, a few other offices of the municipal corporation and a small museum of Maratha artefacts put together by noted Maratha historian, Babasaheb Purandare. This structure is famous for its fine entrance and the balcony with carved woodwork.

(4) NanaWada is one of the few remnants from Peshwa glory, Nana Wada is a stone’s throw from Shaniwar Wada. Built in 1780 by Nana Phadnavis, the Peshwa’s chief administrative officer, the Wada is a pale shadow of its former imposing self.

(5) Mandai officially known as Mahathma Phule Mandai is the biggest vegetable market in Pune City, India. It is located in heart of Pune in Shukrawar Peth area. The market's main entrance is located on the road connecting Shanipar to Chhatrapati Shivaji Road, it has eight entrances.

The market is located next to Tulsi Baugh which is another big market in Pune. It supplies vegetables, fruits and articles for Pooja (Hindu worship). The construction of building started in 1882 and took 4 years for completion. The market was built by the Poona Municipality and opened in 1886 by the then Governor of Bombay Presidency, Lord Reay. The market at that time was called Reay Market and also served as Municipality office.

All of these places can be visited in a single day as all of them are in walking distance. After visiting these places you'll get the experience of what Pune actually was like 100 years before.
