Ogoh Ogoh Bali

I have experienced the wonderful of Silence Day for the third times in Bali. This year, the Silence Day was on March 28th, 2017. One night before the Silence begins, the Balinese celebrating a parade called Ogoh Ogoh. Ogoh Ogoh is normally standing on a pad built of timber planks and bamboos. The pad is designed to sustain the Ogoh-Ogoh while it is being lifted and carried around the village or the town square. There are normally eight or more men carrying the Ogoh-ogoh on their shoulders. This procession is accompanied by orchestral music performed by the youth. The use of flares is also a main part of the parade. A symbol of self-purification. The Silence Day itself is a day when the Balinese spend 24-hour with no electricity, no entertainment and stay at home. No one is allowed to go out on streets. Even their busiest International Airport, the Ngurah Rai Airport doesn't operate. It was an amazing experience and I'm waiting for the next Silence Day next year.Ogoh OgohOgoh Ogoh

Re: Ogoh Ogoh Bali

Hi @ElpidoM

Impressive photo and great post.  I just moved your post here in the "Share your Discoveries and Photos" board as it is the best place to share your photos and experience. In the "Mapping your World" board instead you can share and ask for tips and advice on mapping.

As it looks like you are new in the forum, why don't you explore the many sections of the site and check out the conversations happening among our Local Guides? For example, this section of the site has some good tips on how to use the community and interact with your fellow Local Guides.

Tips for getting started:

Search the community before posting as others may have asked your question (and received an answer) already.
- Use a descriptive title for your post to make it easier for people to know whether they should open it.
- Share a story with your photo(s) - tell your fellow Local Guides something about the location's history, why you like it,  a few details on what is in the pictures, etc.
- Use the Location field to geotag your post to a specific place, but make sure its important to the content of the post.
- Don't share personal information on the forums, check out the private messaging option instead.

This area has helpful information about the Local Guides program in case you have more questions. Don't forget to introduce yourself to the other Local Guides on our brand new March 2017 introduction thread, too, if still you haven't done it yet, and feel free to ask if you need any help or tips.

Many thanks and have fun with Local Guides!
