Sometimes, when we take a photo of a person or a vehicle, we don't pay attention to breathing room or implied movement and that can lead to weirdly composed pictures.
Also, we need to make the viewer comfortable when seeing your photo, so we need to allow for the subject to breathe and to have some empty space to the place she is looking or to the place the vehicle is moving to, as you can see in the example image I did some time ago (even if the captions are in Spanish, you see that she has some free space to the right of the frame, right where she is looking).
On the contrary, on the next example, even if the picture is of a sculpture, the cow seems to be walking to the right of the frame and, however, it doesn't have any breathing room in that part of the frame. If you take a look at that photo you'll start feeling uncomfortable right away without really knowing why.
So, summing up, you should allow for some space in your photo to the place where your subject is looking at or moving to, and that would make the composition better. Of course, if you are such a pro that you want to convey difficult emotions and make the viewer uncomfortable, break the rule as much as you want! 🙂

Great tips! Important for video too, framing is so key.
