Hi everyone! Rodolfo here!
Since I'm applying to this year's Connect Live (former Summit), I would like to link this post to it, since I have been trying to post it for a while.
I'm an active photographer and I contribute to Maps mostly on images -actually I'm about to hit 30 million views on my Google Guide images!- and I would like to share my experiences and tips regarding taking the best shots:
1. On first place: Golden Hour. I think this is the tip I give more to my friends, since it is really the most beautiful time to take a picture, in my opinion. The buildings, places, objects and faces are much more artistic when the sun touches its before sunsetting. Example: https://www.instagram.com/p/BY0rWrelCeS/?taken-by=backpackerthunder
2. Another great tip that works for me is putting the objects on a side (not at middle). I know Maps promoted this tip, but it has been working for me since many years now and the promotion on Maps made me realize I can share my tips so maybe someone can benefit from them. 3. Sometimes we have an amazing element in front of us, but since it is big, we can shot it all on one image. 2 way to solve it: a) Build the image like building a 360 image: google and other apps allow us to create a 360 image based on many smaller images, so that can help us create the scene and then show it on 2d. I did this on one of my posts: https://www.instagram.com/p/BDnU_24S4Mh/?taken-by=backpackerthunder; b) Buy a cheap and efficient lens for smartphone and take the picture with a big angle, it helps a lot sometimes. This was taken with a small lens: https://www.instagram.com/p/BZOFkLLlR23/?taken-by=backpackerthunder
4. Lines. Doesn't matter how or where, but play with them. Lines are amazing and they create a great composition for images and also to give perspective. My example: https://www.instagram.com/p/BFQ_abVy4GL/?taken-by=backpackerthunder
5. B&W. Black and white images are some of my favorite surprises and this is because when I'm editing my images, sometimes I spend a lot of time editing until it has the right exposure, lightning, color and everything, but then I change it to black and white and that's the one! Sometimes the simplicity of the colors reveal the composition of the image and it is all you need. My example: https://www.instagram.com/p/BG6eJ-iS4Dv/?taken-by=backpackerthunder
Thanks for reading, and as you noticed, I have a travel blog where I like to share my images and experiences.
