Entry of a private residance

Please anyone tell me that is the private residence entry permissible on Google maps?

If yes, then its ok.

But if it is a no, then is it to be marked as private or a spam while suggesting an edit on Google map?

Please help.

I am about to reach upto 500 points while doing the edits.

Re: Entry of a private residance

Hi @DattarajV (and @Haruki as a matter of fact),

You cannot add private listings but the reason is different. Here are the guide lines on what you cannot add to Maps (it's the MapMaker guide lines but whatever...)

https://support.google.com/mapmaker/answer/2642650

It says...

Private listings and premises:

  • Celebrity homes
  • Your home

There is MyMaps for any private info - and eventually you can also share your maps but such private info has nothing to do on the public map. The public map is for info about places and businesses that everyone can visit and become a customer of (well in case of businesses). You would not like to be ringed up on your private home, would you?

When reviewing such info as a Local Guide, these places should be marked as "closed permanently" and as the reason, indeed "Private" should be given unless you are pretty sure that the addition is in fact pure "Spam" (but be carefuly with unfounded accusations).

Re: Entry of a private residance

@DattarajV,

Marking your home using something like "My House", or "Dattaraj's House" is not allowed.

The way that is acceptable, is to make sure that your address can be found at the right location. To do so, search for your address in maps, and when you find it, make any adjustments to it's location necessary.

Note that the only things allowed on an address marker are things like street name and number, locality, country, postal code, etc. Any personal information is not allowed.

While address markers are permitted on the map, currently we cannot add them.  They were available for addition in Map Maker, but with it's retirement we will have to wait for the ability to add them to be added to Maps.

You can correct any existing marker by moving it to it's correct place, but be warned that whenever you look up an address Google is either going to show you the marker if it exists or attempt to predict its position if it doesn't.  The vast majority of addresses are going to not have a marker and be predictions; but only markers can be edited, not predictions.
