On World Wine day - May 28, 2017 - over 70 Istrian wine cellars will join thousands of wineries across the world in opening their cellar doors to the public to provide a behind-the-scenes look into their operations and offer free wine tastings. Wine cellar doors are open from 10 am to 7 pm. The Open Wine Cellars Day (aka Dan Vina) event is organized by the Istrian Tourist Board, Istrian County Tourism Department, as well as Vinistra Association of Istrian Winemakers and Winegrowers. The Wine Day project was initially launched in the Italian region of Tuscany in 1993 as a new way of promoting wine tourism. Istria joined the project in 1999 with 37 winemakers. Today, Open Wine Cellars Day has developed into full day festival of wine culture in Istria with over 70 participating wineries.
