The event started at 9.00 am with the participation of 15 people on the 17th of March.
The team was split into 8 pairs and we started walking along the street. Then we started editing the maps along the road, the left side of the road-LHS was edited on the map by one and the right side-RHS was edited by the other. We spent about 90 minutes editing the map walking along different streets of Batticaloa town.
Following the map editing session, we shared the knowledge gained through the local guide journey and many fruitful stories. During our Geowalk, two business owners treated us with snacks and juice knowing the fact that we are a team of volunteers supporting to improve google maps. Some of the business owners shared their stories with us. Then only we got to know the real meaning of the reviews written as friendly staff or business owners by our local guides.
After Geo Walk we undertook the fabric painting. Most of all the Local guides contributed to draw the picture. We decided to draw a Map of Srilanka island and all Local Guides were encouraged to draw each famous place in object form. All local guides used hands full of colors and they have shown their talent on Sri Lankan map.
We had lot of fun and finally made a Srilankan map filled with colors. Dried the paint and we carefully folded the map and took back.
Map your world week was spent awesome with Geo walk and map editing. At the end of the day we returned back home with the satisfaction of adding most of all the missing places in the Batticaloa town.
