On Android, you can name your dish photos on Google Maps and help other people know what to order. Plus, you’ll earn 3 extra points!

Named dining photos will be showcased in a new Popular dishes feature that shows up when you check out restaurants on Maps. You’ll see what dishes and drinks Local Guides are excited about to help you make the best choice about what to order.

There are two ways to start adding dishes on Google Maps:

1. Name photos you’ve already shared

If you’re already an avid dining contributor, you can name dishes in dining photos that you’ve shared on Maps in the past—and earn 3 more points for each one.

  • Go to Your contributions in the Maps menu on your phone
  • You’ll see a new section called Add photos & reviews—tap Get started
  • Select Tag dishes to see all your eligible photos

2. Add new restaurant dish photos and name them right away

You’ll be asked to add names to dining photos when you upload them. So you’ll never forget to earn those extra points!

  • Upload a restaurant dish photo to Maps on your phone
  • Follow the instructions to name dishes
  • Add the name of the dish as it appears on the menu
  • You’ll earn the usual 5 points for adding a photo, plus the extra 3 points for dish naming

Tips for taking dish photos

The best dish photos are of a single item, clearly focused, and well-lit. You don’t want to combine dishes in one photo because others may be confused on which food item is which. Be sure to share all of your favorites, and check out this post for more food photo tips.
