Local Guides program debuts new mission in video starring 20 Local Guides from around the world

Former Google Contributor

The Local Guides program has released a new video debuting its updated mission and featuring 20 Local Guides from around the world. The shared global mission uniting more than 120 million Google Maps contributors worldwide is “to help people everywhere make the best decisions about the things worth doing.”

The making of the video brought film crews to Sao Paulo, Brazil; London, England; Paris, France; Tokyo, Japan; Bangalore and Raipur, India; Jakarta and Sukabumi Indonesia; Mexico City, Mexico; and Dubai, United Arab Emirates. In the United States, crews visited Miami, Florida; Kansas City, Missouri; and New York City in New York.

Local Guides featured in the video are Vandana Bellur, Fernanda Cury, Daniel Ferreira, Marie Frei, Amandine Goetz, Celeste Lupercio, Sophie King, Riya Manoj, Afra Muhammad, Nyai Nurjanah, Ayaka Ohkawa, Archit Ojha, Giuliano Orlando, Ameyali Pérez Huitrón, Steve Pierre, Akshay Shankar, Auditya Venkatesh, and Kuniyoshi Kobayashi with his dog, Tina.

Steve Pierre (@SP31), who was interviewed for the video, said, “It was honestly a surprise, and an honor, to be part of the brand anthem video for Local Guides. I had the opportunity to showcase my city (Miami) as an international destination and also share the importance of our contributions.” Steve added, “Our contributions on Google Maps can inspire and influence the decisions of people all over the world. I’m proud to represent Local Guides locally and globally.”

The video’s most dramatic moment takes place on top of the Copan Building in Sao Paulo.  Giuliano Orlando (@GiulianoOrlando), the Local Guide who appears in the scene, said, “Shooting a ‘Whoo hoo!’ from the Copan Building’s rooftop means so much... That place and that building represent one of the best chapters of my life, as a Local Guide, as a professional tour guide, and as a citizen of Sao Paulo and Brazil.”

Steve and Giuliano are among nine alumni of the Local Guides Summit and Connect Live who are featured in the mission video. Connect Live 2019 attendees got a first look at the video when it was played during the event as Mara Chomsky, Local Guides Community Lead, introduced keynote speaker Jen Fitzpatrick, Senior Vice President, Google Maps, to the stage.
