I'm thinking you may be new to this too. I sure am. But the idea of gifting something that no one will probably ever use and that costs you nothing is an old, well established advertising gimmick.
Look at it this way : it could suck even more. They could have added the infamous 'Buy one, get one free' clause. Or even worse : Buy one and get half off the next purchase.
I guess since it's the Holiday season they were feeling generous.
