Popular Locations Have Picture Overload

If you ever try to submit a picture to a popular destination, there is a chance that it will say that it already has 200 pictures. An example of this is the Sydney Opera House. It is possible to still add another picture but there is little chance that the picture will ever show up again. This one seems like a difficult problem to solve. If it is possible to add as many pictures as wanted, how would these pictures ever be displayed? Maybe there is another way to think of this. Instead of a flat selection of photos, it would be better to arrange the picture by classification systems. It could be similar to directory trees used for files. The most obvious classification is date/time but other classifications are possible too. Perhaps it could be based on image quality. Or maybe it would have tags for photos. Regardless, it should be possible to be able to classify pictures and be able to let the user decide how they are displayed. With some kind of classification system active, there would not need to be a limit on number of images.

Is this a possible enhancement?

I agree with you that this is a problem, But with your suggestion, it would be turning google maps into another image social network.

AviP,

Out of curiosity, do you have an alternative suggestion? Given the problem of having too many pictures, what is a better way of handling them?  Would you keep the 200 limit?

Thanks,

Jeff

perhaps appoint a guide/guides to curate photos which are submitted to popular locations so the best or most accurate will be displayed, instead of just the first 200 to have been uploaded. another thought is to incorporate a voting system of sorts into the ways which users can contribute (similar to how people contribute currently via the questions, ratings, edits, etc.)
