Hi friends,
Today I am discuss about turmeric and it's cultivation. It is a very popular spice that grows in almost all places, except coastal areas in Kerala. It is an unavoidable ingredient (turmeric powder) in Kerala dishes. It is from ginger family, having green long leaves grew up to three feet height and only its rhizome (deep yellow in colour) is used.
Kerala's turmeric have high quality in its oil content. It is used in many ayurvedic medicines, and have ability to cure. Keralites get good earnings from turmeric cultivation. The seed rhizomes is leaved in small digs and need a seven months growth, harvesting in January. After remove roots, rhizomes boiled in water, then paved in open air for drying in sun light (good sun light in December to March). Branded turmeric powder (no matter in brands) available in retail grocery shops and unbranded in flour mills through out Kerala.
