Google Drive Space

So having read other comments about the google drive storage at Level 4:

"What happens to my files after the free storage expires?

Your files will stay saved in your Google Drive. If you don't have any more storage space, you won't be able to add more files unless you remove files or buy storage."

Does this mean you can fill it to the max 100 gig level, and then keep it forever free of charge?

Yes.
But you won't be able to add anything until you get back to your free quota or whatever you wish to pay for.

I get what you are saying, but my basic allowance through my Gmail account is 15GB, and it has just been upgraded to 100GB, now imagine if I fill that over the next year.

Am i seriously going to delete 86GB of data to get to a point where i have 1GB free again, so that i can add something......I think not.

I get what you say, and in essence anyway I would just use the Recover Storage facility:

I shoot using an old Canon Eos 400D which is a max of 8mp, and the recover storage facility only renders photos above 16mp, my image quality should remain about the same, so in effect I will still have the free storage for life.

The point is really, why would you fill the drive with high quality images (over 16mp), knowing that at the end of the year, you either have to render your photo quality, pay for the storage, or after uploading them all in the first place, download them again to either a hard drive, or download then upload to other cloud storage providers, just so that you can use your Gmail account again.

I think the problem is that many people don't understand what will happen at the end of the year, they don't realise if they are over their 15GB normal limit they may be faced with a hard decision to delete or to start paying for space. As an early LG was offered 1TB of free space but didn't even bother unlocking it.

That's the whole point of these kinds of freebies. You shouldn't see them as rewards: they're baits. Google, like any other business, wants your money.
