Believe it or not but there is small village in Rajasthan known as Bera in which leopards live in perfect harmony with humans. The picturesque village is surrounded by undulating rocky mountains which is the abode of these leopards. Along the mountains flows the river Jawai an abode to a host of crocodiles. The panoramic view of the Jawai Lake is a feast to the eyes.
We decided to go on this wildlife Safari and stayed at Castle Bera owned by Thakur Baljit Singh, a descendant of Maharaja Pratap.
We were fortunate to spot two leopards sitting on the steps of a temple. It was an amazing sight as the leopards sat calmly as a priest walked past them at a distance of one foot. The sight of these beautiful animals with a golden coat reflecting the sunlight makes you want to keep gazing without batting your eyelids.
The night Safari is very exciting as the jungle suddenly comes alive with animals like hyenas and foxes, nilgais. The drive up the steep rocky hills gives one goosebumps and is a once in a lifetime experience. It is like scaling up a wall in a jeep.
The Castle Bera
The amenities and the food offered at the Castle were fit for a king. The place is classy to say the least and the host himself looks after the several needs of the guests which makes one overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality offered. One of the best trips we have had so far and compelling us to go again and again. makes one overwhelmed by the warmth and hospitality offered.
