407 m2 Mansion for Henry - Casa Loma

100 years ago, Casa Loma was constructed from 1911 to 1914 as a residence for financier Sir Henry Pellatt. He was a stockbroker and later, notable for his role in bringing hydro-electricity to Toronto for the first time.

The house cost about $3.5 million and took 300 workers three years to build from 1911 to 1914. During the depression of the world war one, Sir Henry had to move out at 1923. He enjoyed the house for less than 10 years

In the late 1920s, investors operated Casa Loma for a short time as a luxury hotel. During Prohibition, it became a popular nightspot for wealthy Americans. KCCL (Kiwanis Club of Casa Loma )managed Casa Loma for 74 years, until 2011. In 2001, the city temporarily resumed management of Casa Loma and began welcoming bids from the private sector in its search for a new operator.
