Since Google can know who all are active contributers/who contributes often, I think Local Guides would be encouraged to contribute more and more when they are gifted with badges, t-shirts, certificates, appreciation letters. T-shirts and badges might help a lot since when local Guides wear it and visit some place the owners might give them more information about their business and allow the Local Guides to take good pictures and videos.
When it comes to certification and appreciation letters, who all recieve it will surely post them on social media so that their friends, family and others know. This would also inspire others to contribute to the maps so that even they get certified. This way there will be many new Local Guides and the amount of contributions get increases providing more and better information in the Google maps and the users to know more about different places and new places.
