You should be aware that the Local Guides Program is a subset of Google Maps. This is the community outreach part of Google Maps where we encourage and support community related activities. From my perspective as a volunteer moderator, this community is about helping to encourage the generation of high quality contributions in a fun, educational and supportive manner. A lot of the community-led initiatives are near and dear to us e.g. One Accessibility is about encouraging/educating everyone to include accessibility in their reviews/photos/videos even if it doesn’t directly affect them because it’s still very useful for other Maps users.
If you prefer more technical discussions and less community celebrations posts, I would suggest you go to the Google Maps Help Community. Hopefully you’ll be able to get the responses that you prefer over there.
However, if you want to understand why “2 mins of fame amongst a community nobody cares about” actually do matter to us, feel free to stay and have a browse.
