Reef sharks
You can also see a lot of friendly sharks when you go snorkelling or diving on the Great Barrier Reef. There are a lot of cute black tip sharks around.
Wobbegongs
Gummy/toothless sharks - these are all over Australia and you can encounter them when you are swimming. They are very friendly and harmless. I picked one up by hand in Streaky Bay, South Australia, when it got stranded on a sandbank but they tide, to return it to deeper water.
Diving
If you have a certificate, try diving with sharks. You can do shark diving courses just north of Sydney - I did mine at Seal Rocks, near Myall Lakes in New South Wales. There were plenty of grey nurse sharks (see above) and lots of others too. And you will also see sharks if you dive anywhere there are seals, e.g at Montague Island, NSW or Jervis Bay, ACT. (Yes, the ACT has a coastal enclave).
