We’d love to hear from you! Share your thoughts on the new Connect

I’m brand new using the connect app but have been a contributer for many years. Looking forward to connecting with like-minded people.

Couple of questions?
-Have our photos that were stored on connect disappeared?

  • I used to have in the old connect standard answers that had accompanying links to help guides go in the right directions, especially new guides. I think they used to be stored under “Macros” Not sure. have they disappeared or is it I cannot find them?

Huge help. I was trying to figure out how to go back and edit my signature, too, since that got scrambled after the changes. Fixed it. I appreciate it.

Hi Terry

Yes, our old macros got lost in the conversion as there are no macros available. It was recommended to save them manually. I now keep mine in a Google Docs file.

I would like to express my opinion on the deterioration of Local Guides Connect that took place this fall.

I have been using the Local Guides Connect message board since 2017 as a place to accumulate information, knowledge, wisdom, and experience.
Comments continue to be added to the articles themselves. I also find the information that comes up as search results very useful.
And most importantly, by quoting those articles and comments using URL links, the information could be used from all media on the Internet.

However, all posts on the Street View message board on Local Guides Connect, which was a place that was used quite actively, were deleted in December 2020.

And now, with the changes to the Local Guides Connect message board this fall, it seems that more than half of my posts have disappeared.
Of course, many of the posts by other users have already been deleted as well.

If the Local Guides Connect organization had dissolved or filed for bankruptcy and destroyed the bulletin board, I would have given up.

But what kind of thinking would make the administrator of the organization, which still exists today, delete past posts from the bulletin board without permission?

I don’t understand it at all.

If your only purpose is to share information for the moment, it is enough to use a well-known social networking site with the hashtag #LocalGuidesConnect.

I cannot continue to use a bulletin board that deletes posts without permission to accumulate knowledge.
Even for articles and comments that can currently be viewed, if I obtain the URL and post it on another SNS, and click on it, it will take me to a different place than the comment in question (although I have not yet been able to determine at what stage the problem is).

I no longer see any point in continuing to use this bulletin board.

Best of luck to you all.

Semenjak Adanya Perubahan Di Local Guide Connect ini Khususnya di Google Maps, Saya Jadi Tidak Bisa Berkontribusi Lagi, Saya Tidak Bisa Menambah Tempat, Tidak Bisa Memindai Tempat yg Salah, Tidak Bisa Menyunting Jalan pada Lokasi yg Salah, Tidak Bisa Menghapus Tempat Tempat Fiktif, Tidak Bisa Menambah Foto di Ulasan saya Dan Sebagainya, Semuanya Selalu TIDAK DISETUJUI Oleh Google Maps setelah saya Lihat di Info Editnya, Tapi Pelaporan di Gmail saya Selalu DITERIMA. Ini yg Menjadi Masalah saya sejak Adanya Perubahan khususnya di Maps saya sebagai Local Guide, Kontribusi saya Selalu Tidak Disetujui selain Tidak Dikenal.

Hi,
I took my time before responding, but my trial period was long enough to gather my thoughts. Honestly, my first impression wasn’t great. This new seamless look might be on trend, but it just makes everything harder to see and understand. Plus, everyone’s “Macros” got deleted, and now the categories are way too simplified. I really tried to figure out how to use the new forum, but I just don’t enjoy looking at it.
Not saying everything is bad—improved private messages are a nice touch—but even that improvement is overshadowed by this “seamless” style that’s hard on the eyes. I know it’s popular right now, but it’s making too many websites tough to read, and I’d rather stick to pages that don’t follow this trend.
Because of the new look, I’ve lost interest in contributing here and decided to move on to other sites with a similar purpose but more reader-friendly designs. I’m still passionate about improving maps and keeping them up to date, but I’d rather connect with local guides on a platform that doesn’t give me a headache just from trying to navigate the interface.

I mean no harm by this comment and I am trying to give you my honest opinion.
Thank you,

Lukáš

Many of us had mentioned awhile back about having an iOS app. for Connect. As it stands only Android users can have an app that loads directly up to Connect.

Atenciosamente,
José Carlos da Silva

Hi @JC_JKRLOSS
Thanks for tagging me, even if it’s for a criticism. Criticism is always appreciated, when it’s constructive.

In the new Connect we can choose the platform language through our profile settings.

After that, when a topic or a reply is in a language we want to translate, we can activate the translator by clicking on the globe under the post.

Thanks for sharing the links. I checked some of them, and they are absolutely against the rules, because they are self-promotional and because they are uploaded in a place where there is no button to upload images (a practice not allowed, but unfortunately not respected by many).
I will take care of checking the profile and reporting the user. Unfortunately, the abuse of the use of images seems to be difficult to manage, given that the Maps platform has over 500 million contributors. This is an issue that I have personally reported to Google about every 6 months since 2017, and I assure you that I will continue to do so.

I’m sorry to have given this impression. I believe that the problems we have in Google Maps should be understood in the context of the contributions, and I don’t like hypocrisy.
If you think that in some way my response may have been rude, write to me in the post or privately and I will be happy to explain why I responded in that way. I am a person who believes a lot in rules and their intrinsic value, and I believe that rules should be respected. Of course, not everyone is happy when they receive a response they don’t like, but if you think my response was inappropriate, it is your right to report it to Google moderators privately using the flag under my response.

Can you kindly provide an example?
Are you referring to questions about Connect or Google Maps?
In Connect the guide to using the platform is here: Community guidelines - Local Guides Connect
If you are referring to Maps, I think the correct thing to do is to direct to the guidelines and the Maps help, which are always multilingual. Many direct instead to other posts in Connect which however as I showed you above can always be translated into your language.

If you have any Connect malfunctions or suggestions for improvement, you can use the form mentioned in the post: feedback form

I’m sorry you think so, because it’s not a question of hostility. What the moderators try to do is to warn you when someone is, perhaps unknowingly, violating the rules of Maps. This is not meant to be an accusation towards the writer, but an attempt to help the Local Guide avoid being suspended from Maps: Sometimes those who tell you “good” are not helping you, while those who tell you “be careful” are trying to do so, even if I understand that sometimes our response may not be liked.
