Unplanned Solo Trip to Hawaii

I decided to write about my 6 days unplanned trip to Oahu to encourage solo travelers book a random flight and enjoy a vacation stress-free with zero plans.

It was the night before Thanksgiving of last year and I wanted to do something for fun since I already have celebrated the occasion with friends two weeks in advance. I head to my phone, of course, and google “Flights to Hawaii”.

A google algorithm hits me with a jaw-dropping non-stop deal that I couldn’t resist. A few clicks later and I am all booked and ready for my flight that leaves in 8 hours! I am going to Hawaii everyone :star_struck:

I had no friends/family in Hawaii I could have used as a guidance. So I completely relied on the power of google to guide me through an amazing trip with no fear.

Right from the rain and harsh winter of my city, I land at this pretty airport with so much sunlight and birds chirping all over the place.

Daniel K. Inouye International Airport

The trip has just started and I have no accommodation plan nor an idea of where I will end up on this island :palm_tree:

I walk around the airport with my only backpack that contains beach clothes and three Nike caps. I then stumble by a tropical Jamba Juice to relax and get into the Hawaiian spirit. It was also a great chance to exercise my Alohas for the first time. :hibiscus:

A few sips later and a couple google map searches away, I find this hotel with its gorgeous ocean-view rooms that overlooks the Waikiki bay. I jump into a car-share ride with zero-hesitation and head over.

Hyatt Regency Waikiki Beach Resort And Spa

Yes. I didn’t lie! I could sit in this balcony and contemplate on how I wasted my whole life not knowing of this beauty.

Of course I didn’t come to the island to stay in my resort room - duh  . I head out to explore how tropical Hawaiians live, to find this cute dog watching their parent playing Volleyball.

I think you can expect what I did for the rest of my trip… (yep. Tan like a celebrity and enjoy the beach life)

I will make it short and cut through several days by showing you random pictures of what I have done.

Sunset watching with a margarita at the Sheraton Waikiki infinity pool

Mai Tai at the Hyatt Regency

A night stroll at the international market place

Diamond Head hiking & a fresh Pineapple juice

Kailua Crossfit Box (Who would say no to a workout with this gorgeous view?!)

Island Vintage Shave Ice Cream

Waikiki Beach at night (a good opportunity to meditate and exercise tranquility)

There’s so much to cover here, hundreds of beautiful pictures to post and a lot of cool topics to discuss but the whole point of this article is to encourage solo travelers to enjoy a spontaneous trip with no prior planning!

I was able to enjoy solo time with my kindle on the beach and random walks on the island.
I also signed up for activities using TripAdvisor, made a bunch of friends, went surfing for the first time. I even got invited to an unexpected birthday party by just being overly friendly at the beach to a group of friends.

Conclusion. In a matter of less than 10 minutes, you can book a flight somewhere. Spend less than an hour pin-pointing locations on google maps. Spend another hour read tens of local guides reviews and you are all set to go and enjoy a solo trip! :clap:t2:

I hope you find this little article helpful. Please let me know if you need any recommendations on traveling since I have been all over the world :earth_americas:
