Understanding things we can not edit on Google Maps

Thank you for putting this together for us, Morten.

I think part of the frustration around this issue is the fact that “it doesn’t work like it used to” … maybe for good reason.

As an example, we can no longer post photos on town labels, but it use to work. When it worked, it resulted in some cases that thousands of photos were posted on the “town” labels. So are those photos left to represent that “town”? Do some photos added to POIs within the town border eventually get posted, by Google, under the “town” label?

There are 5 photos to be viewed there. (These are probably not taken within the town border.) Are these going to stay, with no other additions? I have posted a photo at a pin within the borders and I can view this photo under “By You”, but I don’t believe that is accessible by the public. Is that photo going to end up under the “town” label?

I understand Google wants the data be added by proper documentation etc (parks, lakes etc) but these are also the tourists/visitors rich points so what’s the point of marking them as area and making it devoid of photos and reviews ? If people needs to look at place they want to see pictures and reviews before going there.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

Thanks for this tutorial,

I want to ask about things like metro stations, tramway stations, bus stops, it seems that are not possible to add, How can we deal with this problem?

and even when I try to edit the name of one of these (for example to add the local language) it is not possible;

Do you have an idea?

I see.. Thank you sir for this valuable info. And that’s why my suggested edit about some hospitals are not getting approved and continously rejected. BTW I’m from Pakistan and I want to change the names of some hospitals located here in my district from Hospital to BHU Basic Health Unit.

One more question sir. City names, village names, Tehsil, district or any other sub division names, area names, colonies, societies names etc are mentioned on a lot of places on the map. (though I don’t know who added them and how) and some of those names are in more than one languages. And some areas have also their boundaries identified (like the boundries or borders of a country, province, destruct etc and the boundries of societies). Here, in my home destruct, our village names, and even our Tehsil name is not on the map, so how can I add them? I already suggest those to the map moderators via the Opinnion or Suggestion button and also attached the screenshot, containing the highlighted boundries of the villages and their names in English and in Urdu.

Your post on “Understanding things we can not edit on Google Maps” really hits on a crucial aspect of contributing as Local Guides. It’s something I’ve definitely wondered about myself, and I’m sure many others in the community have too.
