Well it’s good that your data is still visible @anon64801222 and I hope that it stays that way. Keep an eye on it and please let us know if it changes.
Thanks for sharing this @AdamGT. This looks like a big change in the badge system. I am so sad to see this update. If this change becomes permanent, it could affect how Local Guides track their achievements and also impact leaderboard posts on Connect. Anyway, it is not yet updated on my iOS device. I wish it were a bug.
Oh yes in more ways the one @Kumaarsantosh! In the meantime, it’s good that your data is still visible and let’s hope that it stays that way. Do keep an eye on this and please let us know if it changes.
Hey! When I first checked, it was different than the main post that got updated a bunch of times
.
You’re lucky to still have the counters for now, @JustJake! Enjoy them while they last, as, while I might well be wrong, it seems the ‘Checkmark Wave’ is rolling out globally.
You touched on a critical point—we’ve already lost visibility on Edit Views, and losing the granular data for photos and videos feels like another step toward ‘dark mode’ for our metrics. For those of us who track our progress via the T100 and other spreadsheets, these numbers aren’t just ‘stats’—they’re the evidence of our impact.
This is exactly why I’m pushing ahead with the Wall of Fame (see the most loved photos post). If the official app is going to stop showing us our ‘score,’ we need to build our own spaces to celebrate the work that actually matters.
Oh yes it’s certainly a big change @PrasadVR and looking at the reaction, we’re all sad alright. As I mentioned, I’m not at all sure if this is a permanent UI change but if so, it will mean the death of some of the Leaderboards or parts thereof! But you just never know, if the overall reaction is negative, Google might just revert everyone back to the numeric view.
Sorry @NareshDarji after @WilfriedB’s reply to your comment about the app version I updated the post so this point wasn’t buried deep in the comments. Anyway for now, given that the version seems not to be relevant, it’s possible that this could be a case of A/B testing.
@WilfriedB @AdamGT . I can see all data in the app
This is the version I have as well @AdamGT, but no change in functionality yet.
The rolling out of this new change really looks like Google is trying to kill the app, and potentially kill the Leaderboards. Already we’re unable to see the total points for our profile without going back to desktop. Now with the numbers disappearing from the app badges, there’s nowhere on desktop to find that.
I’ve noted before that a lot of what we do here is by personal initiative, and not designed by Google. Therefore Google doesn’t have to acknowledge or respect our existence when making changes like this. It may even be that this massive company is completely unaware of our relatively small group of Leaderboarders.
It’s good that you can see all the data @curatorofmemory however, will you be able to tomorrow or the day after? I have the same app version as others yet seeing a totally different UI
You’ve seen my 4 possible theories and possibly also the 5th in my reply to @WilfriedB so I guess we just have to wait and see.
@tony_b perhaps you’ve touched on the ‘Invisible Giant’ problem. We often forget that while we are deep in the details of Leaderboards or personal spreadsheets like those of maintained by @ErmesT, @TerryPG, @WilfriedB and yourself, just to name a handful, Google is perhaps looking at a billion users and trying to simplify the interface for the masses. I decided to check my UI again and can see that it is noticeably different to what it was. Can you notice the difference?
You have exactly 100,000 points @AdamGT … BTW me too! ![]()
One correction to your explanation:
"Google is perhaps most likely looking at a billion users and trying to simplify the interface for the masses. "
Yes I noticed the points @WilfriedB but didn’t mention this wanting to see if @tony_b would pick it up when I asked can you notice the difference lol.
Yes @AdamGT, that difference isn’t new. It was already discussed on another thread I was on.
I am still seeing the old version with all counters.
Very interesting @AdamGT, but inconclusive. Mine on Android is still showing numbers, and I don’t have an iOS device to check. As for “the lady” as you call yours, mine doesn’t have any contributions on her profile, so she only has a page suggesting “Earn your New Contributor badge” by adding 2 photos, 2 reviews and answering 2 questions.
@AdamGT, @tony_b and others: Is it really Android versus iOS or the size of the display?
I also still the numbers on the S24 FE, but will try later with my old A50.
BTW, I never really understood the significance of reach and impact. I would not be so unhappy, if I had to skip that look a the mobile at the end of each month. Volume seems to be always identically to would we see as Photos on the desktop. Correct?
