Top 100 Google Maps Local Guides Points (May, 2024)

Thanks @Rednewt74 as that might explain the other possibly bigger problem I mentioned in my comment here.

Hi @AdamGT @JustJake

I can’t see the residual coding issue.

@MattGatlin , @nigelfreeney , this is confirming the rat I mentioned in my opening comment here. It’s too early to mention the details, and the reason for the delay in posting the leaderboards this month is that there have been quite a lot of changes taking place behind the scenes, these changes and the benefits from this will become more evident when the remaining May leaderboards are posted. Once all the errors have been identified, I will correct and repost the May Points leaderboards. Thanks you all for jumping in and doing the needed checking.

Now that we have a full board, I share that view @MattGatlin .

Hello everyone. The rat mentioned in my comment here has now been well and truly trapped and caught and indeed this rat caused the issues mentioned by @Rednewt74 , @MattGatlin and @nigelfreeney in the comments above. I’m just too tired to fix this now but will do so as quickly as possible. Thank you all for your patience and understanding, and for your early checking of the posted leaderboards.

@AdamGT & @nigelfreeney - I’m on mobile now and no longer see the issue. Nevermind :+1:

@JustJake please check again when you are on that earlier device again as I’d like to know if it’s identical to the still unresolved formatting issue you raised last month.

Enjoying my last days on Level 8. Just noticing that when I reach 50,000 points I’ll be too low to get a spot on the Level 9 board. :worried:

But why are there 9 persons listed on Level 8 with points higher than 50,000 @AdamGT ?

Congrats in advance @tony_b I kinda remember mentioning to you that roads can get you a lot of points.

Yes @TerryPG . Those roads are giving me points at a time when it nearly seems pointless to do photos and videos.

@tony_b , in the early days of designing how the Leaderboards would work, I thought about this issue. Falling off the bottom of the Leaderboards is more easily understood but I considered popping out of the top of a leaderboard to be a bit of an irony given that you have increased your Maps contributions resulting in say more photo views and more points yet despite the improvement, you pop out of the top of the leaderboard you just levelled up from but don’t make it onto the next level up. You just don’t have enough to make it onto the next leaderboard.

In the early days of the Leaderboards there was generally room on the next leaderboard but since many of the leaderboards are now full (100 Local Guides), this possibility has become more prevalent. It adds to the fun and motivation to get back on (see Popping out of the top of a leaderboard). There is only room for 100 Local Guides on each leaderboard, hence they are called the Top 100! This is why the “knocking on the door” group was added to the full leaderboards, kind of like a resting place or purgatory if you will for those that have popped off the top :joy:

I know well that you appreciate why and will continue to update your data but for the benefit of others that might be reading this comment, let me say that even if you should drop off the leaderboards, there are advantages of continuing to update your data because the leaderboards are more than just about rankings!

“But why are there 9 persons listed on Level 8 with points higher than 50,000” you ask! Simple Anthony, I made a mistake and did not take into account those that had jumped up a level. It’s the “rat” I mentioned here. Having found this “rat”, I’m about to repost the Points Leaderboards before moving on to the Photos Leaderboards latter today.

@MattGatlin ,

I I agree that there is no need for an overall points leaderboard as it should always be full of level 10 guides. I just recently leveled up by intention and have no issue with no longer being featured in the points board. It was fun being in the points mover and shakers listing, but I won’t miss that either. Except for the last 3 months points have never been a concern of mine. I do think it is nice to see the point levels of the other people in Individual levels; so you can see who are just getting onto it or about to move up.

I have now corrected the known problems with the first posting of the May Points leaderboards and in particular the issues reported by @Rednewt74 , @MattGatlin , @nigelfreeney and also mentioned by @tony_b so please again we need everyone to do the needed checking.

Thank you @AdamGT , road mapping has taken a lot of my time, basically the only three things I do are working, drawing roads and sleeping  . Now the event has come to and end (today hopefully), so i will be set free.

In thinking about the Points Leaderboards  It must be disappointing for people who level up to suddenly be dropped from the points leaderboards because they are now way below the 100th spot of their new level. Maybe do away with the level-based leaderboards for points and just have one overall giant leaderboard (plus the special one for millionaires)…?

It would also give a useful and inclusive perspective of where one stands (points-wise, at least) in the overall T100 LG community.

What does everyone else think about this?

Matt

That’s a really hectic schedule @Lukas_1

I guessed that some LGs must’ve been putting in excessive amounts of time in the TRAC program.
