Top 100 Google Maps Local Guides Photos (May, 2025)

I apologise, “later today” turned out to be “later tomorrow”. As I mentioned in my comment here, because of the number of issues raised after the May points, photo views and video views leaderboards were posted, I decided to have a deep look at my work and discovered some errors. Earlier today I reposted all the May points leaderboards, and have just reposted the far more complicated, photo views leaderboards. I say that they’re far more complicated because while some Local Guides are included in some of the photo views leaderboards, they are excluded from others and the tricky part is to work out “who is in and who is out”.

As an example, if you have a look at the “Photo Views” Leaders Summary board shown below, you will see that with an impressive 1.5B+ views @DougSTL tops the Level 9 Local Guides however, for the reasons explained in the readme point #8, Doug has been excluded from the final Photo Views Leaders Summary board and replaced by @shunsader who fully meets the inclusion requirements.

Now extend this to all other leaderboards and you will understand why I said this is all very complicated. Now there are still a couple of boards in this post that still require some editing/checking so I will need to update these in the next day or so and on this, your careful checking is always a great help.

Once again, thank you all for your patience and understanding.

ps: Thank you all who responded to @StevenBerlin’s what gives!

Yes indeed @tony_b and as @abermans points out, it will be the same for most long timers. What’s also interesting is that the rate of decline will differ between us all.

Hopefully I’ve explained it here @shunsader. Keep doing what you’re doing and we’ll see you mixing it with the Billionaires no time soon!

These quotes are starting to get a little complicated but anyway let’s see how I go explaining this. Readme #8 and #9 cover those excluded from one or more of the boards. Point #10 simply covers the case where a Local Guide isn’t excluded for any of those mentioned reasons but there’s an issue with the data provided. I have to say that with the significant improvements/refinements in the Leaderboard System over the years, issue #10 is rare now and perhaps can be deleted. So not much turns on #10, the real factors are covered by #8 and #9.

Perhaps you were missing but there now for the reasons mentioned here!

@shunsader that’s a tricky one for the reasons mentioned by @tony_b here

Thanks for pointing that out @Kumaarsantosh. It’s something I’ve been aware of for for a while and left it to when I had time to clean it up. While sorting out some issues, I managed to start that cleanup earlier today. I still have a bit to do however!

Sorry to hear that you have been sick lately @StevenBerlin. On the bright side, I did some deep checking today so hopefully the outcome from this work will make you feel a little better. Re-check the leaderboards and let me know how I went

Yep, this comment refers @tony_b

Horrendously bumped my views impact by 1 digit :eyes: very novice from me :face_with_peeking_eye:

@Trail_blazer did you not read the System’s warning message? That’s a massive increase in average views :worried:

I ignored it coz I got the same warning for videos as well but the number was legit however it wasn’t the case with photos :expressionless_face:

This is terrible @Trail_blazer

Its actually super easy to enter all fields properly EXCEPT for the photo views 2 fields. On my android, i have to flip my phone sideways, then carefully look at my views number from maps, then type it in. This is actually quite difficult for me. Once you get over 1 billion views, there is an extra character you CANNOT see! So in my case, you need to flip the phone landscape in order to enter the data, while scrolling back and forth.

@Peadar @tony_b

Each month i sort views by most views and take 15 minutes to scroll to the bottom. I then delete any photo that has under 100 views and is 6 months old. I am sure there are better methods, but that is how i do it. I have never cared about points tho, only photo views.

I do very similar Steve, Since the slow down in views, last year My threshold for photos and videos is 100 in 4 months and must have 3k in a year. I Don’t worry about points.
