The Atomic Bomb Dome in Hiroshima

@TusharSuradkar , yes, @ErmesT and I visited the memorial in the afternoon. We walked around the site until around 5 p.m., I believe. It was interesting to see the memorial filled with Japanese secondary school classes walking around and taking group photos at the memorial statue. IMHO, it would be like going to see the 9/11 Memorial & Museum in NYC with my high school class.

It was interesting to be with so many classes, yet it was quiet and somber. As @MortenCopenhagen and you stated, we also didn’t visit the museum because it was already “sold out.” This gives us a reason to visit Hiroshima again. We found the free bus from Hiroshima Shinkansen station easy to board and a great resource for seeing the famous Hiroshima sites. I believe @Jesi and @PennyChristie would agree.

Cheers,

Karen

That is very well said @Rohan10

I remember this slogan from my school days, and we only realize the importance of it after visiting such places as the Hiroshima Atomic Dome site.

Very tragic.

@TusharSuradkar mi pregunta es la siguiente, es seguro ir allĂ por el tema de la radioactividad? Que medidas se toman? Gracias.

Good question @HUMBERTO_V

I think since the city is still inhabited and in use to date perhaps means that it is safe.

Residents and businesses are within 10 meters of the site, which is not seen in my photos.

Thanks for the tag on @TusharSuradkar ‘s post @KarenVChin . You are correct; @Jesi and I visited the Hiroshima memorial at 4.30 in the afternoon on Tuesday 10 October 2023. There were so many school children there at the same time but we were lucky to get tickets to go into the museum. It was extremely crowded but everyone was very respectful and somber.

Sorry for coming so late on your beautiful post, @TusharSuradkar

You are right, together with @KarenVChin we meet you in there. Hiroshima was for sure the place in Japan that I most wanted to visit. A friend of mine asked me for a photo of the trees that survived the explosion of the Atomic Bomb (A-bombed survivor tree - Kurogane Holly).

I didn’t write (not yet) many posts about our trip in Japan, but indeed the visit of Hiroshima was so moving that I wanted to write a post about that: She arrived alone and alone she left - the deepest memory I brought home from Japan .

Such surprise meetings are what we remember the most @ErmesT

Compared to the Google office, which was a bit chaotic, and at other times, kept us busy with the activities, the meeting at the railway station was in a relaxed place.

Nice photo of the Dome from under the arch.

I remember there was a queue too  though a short one

Also, people moved quickly after taking the perfect shot.

I missed your post previously - thanks for the link :+1:

Looking forward to meeting you again in person soon :handshake:

Really this incident was evil in the history of humanity. Nothing in this world is greater than humanity. I will definitely visit the place when I go to japan to experience the loss of humanity in WW2 .
