Thanks to you, @AdamGT , and to all of us LGs who have contributed to this beautiful project, which helps to overcome the linguistic and geographical barriers that too often are used as a pretext to divide rather than enrich the people who live on this incredible planet earth.
Only a few years have passed since this “Leaderboard” adventure began (I’ve been here since November 2020), when the rankings were still a work of absolute manual craftsmanship, but for the size of the work you have done and for the exceptional results that you have summarized in the post, it seems like much more time has passed!
Finally, I want to wish everyone a peaceful and happy new year, with the hope that 2025 marks the end of conflicts near and far, despite the difficulties for this to happen.
A hug to everyone from Rome, Italy
Yes it was a great year but a very busy one @ShreyaMusings. I can’t wait to see how 2025 unfolds. Wishing you a very successful year. Keep learning, keep achieving.
Hey Ashley, I’m really pleased that you enjoyed my post aimed at giving us a snapshot of the collective achievements of the Top 100 Local Guides. The numbers need to be updated for the month of December, which I will do once I have posted the December Leaderboards, but still, they clearly show the amazing contributions made by the members of this community.
Together we can!
Thank you @Gazi_BD Like you, “I’m excited to see what 2025 holds as we continue growing together.” Indeed, together we can.
Thanks for chiming in @LudwigGermany. From humble beginnings, the Leaderboards, have certainly created a fun and friendly competitive niche in the community and have motivated many to becoming better Local Guides.
Rather than me @Arup, this post was more about Local Guides like you, the true stars of the Leaderboards journey but thank you heaps for your kind words of appreciation. So now we’re into 2025, let’s keep achieving and climbing higher together. Together we can!
Thank you so much for your very kind and thoughtful words of appreciation @Tatsiana_T. Keep guiding, keep contributing and keep achieving.
Thank you for chiming in @tony_b. There can be little doubt that by engaging, interacting, sharing as we have been doing over the past years, we have shown that we can bring all of us together from each of our respective corners of the world, both big and small. I’m pleased that the Leaderboards have played a part in this and the results have shown us that together we can.
Thank you @Shaunak. I’m pleased that you enjoyed this post.
I’m pleased to see that you enjoyed the brief overview of the journey so far and the 2024 achievements @Annaelisa.
Thank you @PrasadVR for your kind words of appreciation better summary than mine of 2024 innovations in the Leaderboards (there are more in the pipeline). I too hope that the Leaderboards and the T100 System behind them continue to inspire " Local Guides to improve their quality of contributions to Google Maps."
Thank you for all your hard work Adam in creating this incredible system for recognition of peoples contributions as Local guides across the world. But is it possible to create a new table ?
There was a time when you could appear in the Top100 for all levels with 90,000 points, i.e as a Level 9. But as time has passed there is a growing gap between the top of a level 9 and the 100th place of a level 10 which is now over 158k points. This means that many level 9’s will disappear into obscurity and never actually make it into the top 100 of Level 10 as this gap is increasing every month. But shouldn’t their contributions be recognised?
I would propose a table showing the top 1000 local guides, regardless of level. If there are 120 million google guides in the world, being in the top 1000 is a huge achievement in itself.
Thank you for your appreciation @MilesMac. A new table
Flying off the top of one of the leaderboards and not making it onto the next level above is a quirk of the Top 100 Leaderboards, described in the Leaderboard documentation and raised by others (e.g. @Peadar), and discussed many times in the community.
The concern I’ve always had is that even while starting off with possibly some 9s and 8s, it wouldn’t take long for even the top 1000 to fill up with level 10s. Yes eventually even the 9s and 8s would drop off. So this very thought is what led me to the idea of how best to include the lower levels. So with the Connect limit on the size of any one post, the current Leaderboard structure of up to 100 at each Local Guide level (with up to 10 just outside the door) and with all of the existing different Local Guide contribution metrics covered by the many different Leaderboards, is what I thought was the best and fairest, most inclusive approach. But notwithstanding everything I’ve said above, could we have a separate additional top 1000? Well let’s see what the community thinks about the idea!
- Yes
- No
Thank you @TerryPG. I really do appreciate your very kind and considerate words however, this post is not about me it’s about Local Guides like you, the true stars of the Leaderboards journey. Oh from the so many comments over the years, I do see how the Leaderboards have motivated, informed, taught so many about being better Local Guides, contributing better quality and achieving much more. I’m truly proud of the my contribution.
ps: Like you I sometimes have to go back to the very first couple of posts and it’s a great reading and seeing the originals, yourself, @Herve_Andrieu, @tony_b, @TravellerG and so many others. Of course all this may not have happened if it were not for Connect which brought us all together in the first place and the continual support of the Local Guides Team as well as fellow Connect Moderators. From very humble beginnings, it’s been a rewarding journey and it’s success is based on having the Team, fellow Connect Moderators and you guys, the community by my side as this project has grown and matured from humble beginnings to what it is today. Thank you all.
pps: The number of comments and tags I get on so many Connect topics is very often overwhelming but I will continue working through each and every comment here and will reply as soon as I can. Thank you all for your understanding.
Hey @AdamGT
Good morning hope you are doing well. I really appreciate and value each and every information, document or comment you share on everything connect. This is so motivating and inspiring for me. I have connected with so many amazing people through Google connect and Local Guides that I feel super blessed. Just wanted to thank you and keep motivating.
Regards,
@AdamGT , The Top 100 LBs are a great motivator for many LGs, encouraging learning and growth. It’s a disappointment when our name doesn’t appear on the board. Increasing the board size would allow more LGs to be recognised and motivated. Thank you for all your hard work in maintaining these boards each month for so many years, it’s a challenging task. I would propose Top 500 in first upgrade. The board should cover points, photo and video views.
Hi @AdamGT,
While I agree with what all have been said in light of keeping the motivation level up and having a placeholder in one of the Leaderboards. But I am not sure about increasing the number from 100 to any 100+ will address the core issue as over a period of time even 100+ number will be filled up and some of us will get dropped from a particular LB. I think Top 100 makes sense as it also create a healthy comparison to look up and contribute more quality contents. The other drawback is contributors will lose the interest going through such a long list, they will just look for their presence only.
Yes, we may have some provision to highlight the recently dropped out contributors from a specific LB the way we have additional 10 as knocking the door under each LB.
@AdamGT
Ich denke es würde Grenzen sprengen, mir gefällt es so wie es ist, klein und fein.
Was würde so eine große Anzeige bringen, riesige Unübersichtlichkeit.
I like that description @Kumaarsantosh It’s short yet goes to the very heart of what the Leaderboards are about!
Well done Santosh on highlighting two simple and perhaps not so often mentioned yet very useful T100 System features and these two go to my often saying that the Leaderboards are much more than just being about ranking of local Guides.
Thank you Santosh for your kind words of appreciation.
