While road editing on Google Maps is not available in all countries, you can still contribute by improving maps in other regions. For me, road editing in Cambodia is not currently supported, but this doesn’t stop me from learning and contributing to Google Maps globally.
I got inspired to explore this more after reading this fantastic post: Meet Road Mapping Champions Shola, Marco, and Prasad
They demonstrated the importance of keeping maps accurate for everyone.
Why I Prefer Editing on PC:
Personally, I find it easier to edit roads on a computer than on a phone because:
- Bigger screen
- Easier to drag and fix road lines
- Simple access to all editing tools
But if you’re comfortable, you can also edit using your phone.
How to Edit Roads on Google Maps (PC)
Here are the steps I usually follow:
-
Go to Google Maps on your computer and sign in.
-
Open the menu (three horizontal lines in the top left).
-
Click Edit the map.
-
Choose the option Add or fix a road.
-
Select what you want to do: add a road, fix a road shape, mark a road as closed, etc.
-
Follow the on-screen instructions to complete your edit.
-
Submit and wait for Google’s review.
You can also report wrong pin locations, missing places, or incorrect information through the same menu.
My Note:
Even though Cambodia does not allow road editing right now, I keep contributing in other countries where this feature is available.
I hope that in the future, Google will open this feature for Cambodia too.
Let’s keep mapping and keep helping each other!
