Simple AI flag for disrespectful, arrogant, lazy, cheating LGs

Yes @AdamGT . It is quite possible now for there to be times when we aren’t looking. At the risk of referring to the February 7th failure one time too many, I haven’t been as deeply immersed in the process now as I was when the numbers actually made sense. Most of my daily, weekly, and half-monthly checks and cross references have been completely skipped in April due to travel, and May due to the lack of a fix for the issues. Its only when I went to update my Star Trackers in Week 3 instead of the usual Week 2, that I realized I’d dropped from VIP 10 and had to quickly fix it.

It’s live @tony_b . To see this try updating your Maps Data.

Hi @tony_b Thanks for explaining what you meant by “I posted additional leaderboards when you weren’t looking!”. Among the bunch of new features planned for release, the new notifications feature which I mentioned will I think help prevent that from happening in the future.

Thanks @AdamGT . And now, here’s the output from the updated figures as at 24th May 2024.

Very interesting how it challenged me on any numbers that made big jumps since my last update, but I knew they were honest increases. Roads increased by a lot, as I’m in the TRAC program, and there were more videos and photos than usual, as a result of my overseas trip.

Looking at this more closely, the chart seems to be pulling my Photo Impact numbers into the video space, and the Video Impact numbers into the photo space. Perhaps a small bug to fix?? Screenshot Updated.

Excellent and looks great @tony_b and like @IzzyOz you have excellent media/POI metrics, Lower is better as @nigelfreeney aptly describes this. As you can see it’s live  I’m still trying to get a handle on the apparent discrepancy in some of the calculations however, in the meantime, thank you for clarifying the switch in positions of the photo and video impact numbers. @PrasadVR had mentioned this privately but now I better understand this small beta bug and I’ll fix this now.

The beauty of all this being live is that as well as all the calculations being done for us at any update, I’m wondering if we could add individual thresholds to different metrics (your thresholds might be different to mine based on say geographic location, my guiding interests etc) and integrated with the new notifications feature, one could get an auto notification when crossing a given threshold. Now my thinking on this stems from the thought in the back of my mind of having a reminder when it’s time for you to update and notifications when the system detects that you have new hidden photos/reviews. In this way you would get the earliest possible warning making it much easier to search and solve a given issue. Food for thought! The system is live :joy:

@tony_b and @PrasadVR the positional issue you mentioned has now been fixed. Can you check and confirm please.

Hello @AdamGT ,

Edit; I have checked now, it is perfect, Thank you.

Thanks for the fix @AdamGT and good to see the confirmation by @PrasadVR

I’ve updated my previous post with the new screenshot.

Thanks @tony_b for your confirmation. Now to put the cat amongst the pigeons, while the table looks nice, I see some errors in the calculations and since my comment to @nigelfreeney , this is what I’ve been prompting everyone to take a closer look at so put your thinking cap on and see if you can see what I am talking about.

Hi @Trail_blazer ,

Thanks for your input. This post seems to have generated a lot of activity, with interesting discussions about how things might be positively improved. It is a frustration for me that Google is not more proactive in improving the LG experience. It was great to see the Master Fact Finder adapted to keep it functioning. However, that just feels like a tiny distraction when there is so much more that could be done - don’t mention the ongoing count issue :see_no_evil: :scream: .

Your numbers are great. As you said it is quite difficult to have a major impact on the figures once they have begun to settle at a particular level. I think that is why I liked it as a flagging process. Although I would like to see it used to identify LGs misusing the system, I would much rather give them the guidance and tools to fix their own accounts rather than see them simply dropped into the abyss. In order to empower them to do that we still need a comprehensive overhaul of the LG accounts management.

A few observations @AdamGT

Media = Photos + Video Volume rather than Photo Volume + Video Volume

Media Views = Photo Views + Video Impact rather than Photo Impact + Video Impact

Media seems to represent Maps old way of counting both photos and videos together as Photos

In your Stats Summary, you have Avg Views/Photo listed twice - once calculated on the traditional “Photo Views” designation, and the other recalculated on the lesser “Photo Impact” with Videos separated.

Star views per day has always baffled me, as I don’t know how many days you’re using and based on what starting point. Calculating based on the approximate date I may have uploaded my Star Photo and Star Video, I cannot get the averages your chart is displaying.

That’s all I can see for now. Let’s hope another LG might be more discerning.

Hi @IzzyOz ,

Thanks for joining in the conversation. It’s great to hear you have gotten on board right away with the information available through @AdamGT 's Top 100 Local Guides website.

I am in no way jealous of you swimming with Whale Sharks - what brilliant thing to do. I just did a quick background read and fascinated by these two facts: they have teeth on their eyes, and they can retract their eyes. Super happy for you that they are filter feeders.

I hope you get some stunning photos to share.

Well done @tony_b , this is the sort of thinking I’ve been trying to draw out regarding this beta release. You will see that I have added sequence numbers against each metric to help when discussing same. For example, you might write:

12 Avg Views/Photo = 10 Photo Impact / 08 Photo Volume

12 Avg Views/Photo = 579,350,062 / 14,759

12 Avg Views/Photo = 39,254

so then why does 07 Avg Views/Photo show it as 40,429?

Now that you have explained what we’re talking about, as you say, I hope others will jump in and discuss this further.

@nigelfreeney I get it that it’s better to recieve an intimation or warning before getting totally thrown in a dark room but somehow I look at the system and things I feel maybe it’s better this way because the shear number of mappers adding data to map is so massive that I feel it’s not that a constructive step and the thing Matt said is pretty right that quality is such a subjective matter it will always be difficult to set standard for. I did a cleansing work after knowing I have lots of trash in my profile. I removed almost 1600 reviews and a few thousands of photos and lost around 25 thousand points. But let me tell you I did remove poor quality photos with poor views but that doesn’t reduced my hidden photos by massive numbers. What does it mean ? It means you will lose your contributions but it doesn’t mean your hidden media will be gone too. No, some of the well shot photos get hidden too. When I sorted my photos by views, at the bottom I had 200 photos with 0 to 20 views some of them were added 6 yrs ago. Now the common gut feeling is remove those photos and well I tried, I was losing points but hidden photos weren’t getting reduced :fearful: while the effort It took me to reach at the bottom was huge I need to put my phone on scroller for 20 mins non stop which would make it overheat and eventually reboot. I felt it wasn’t such a great step. If you look at @AdamGT Leaderboards there almost zero lgs with 100% health and no hidden contributions.

Here I stressed hidden contributions over and over because somehow AI will mark them redundant and repetitive eventually publicly hidden. Which I feel has to do with quality.

How long does it take for an image to reach a million views? How about five million views or ten million? Can theoretically all images reach such numbers i being viewed? In fact, those who have had new images uploaded are unfairly judged compared to those images that have had a few years to grow in number of views.

The downside of the older photos, that are a few years old, might be that they no longer show an accurate and current image of the place. As I mentioned earlier, a picture actually says more about the place and not so much about the LG who posted the picture.

An image from a well-visited place in a big touristic city has more chance of reaching higher view numbers than another place with less visit frequency in the countryside with few inhabitants. KPIs and measurement indicators can influence what is posted and reviewed in Google. It should not be a game for filling Google Maps with info about well visited places in big cities.

All the best

@I-am-Q there really is no definitive answer to your question. It will probably vary for different LGs in different countries. I only have three that have passed a million - a 5 year old, a 2 year old, and then a 4 year old. But I also have 5 year old photos with 10,000 views, and some with 1,000 views. And the converse is true - some 1 year old photos that quickly reached half million.

Take a look at your own profile and see if you can discern a rational pattern.
