Simple AI flag for disrespectful, arrogant, lazy, cheating LGs

Hi @PaulPavlinovich ,

Thanks for your feedback. I am perfectly happy to shine a light on my account - it is an obvious and expected potential outcome of raising my head above the parapet instead of simply being happy with the status quo.

It would be great to meet up for a coffee whilst you are in Taunton. I’m pleased that you feel that some of my images are personally helpful. "…mostly great content - I’ll take that, thanks! :grinning: .

I don’t have any great hope that the background processes will in any fair way shape the output from individual LGs. Part of the reason for that is the lack of transparency that leads us to where we are today.

A short while back, due to pressure form the EU Google started to allow LGs a pathway to request a human review for when mistakes where made by the AI filtering system. There was a chink of hope that this would be developed into a sensible system of being able to help train the AI more effectively. Unfortunately, this has now been stopped and Google has drawn the curtains again. If you disagree with the result of an AI decision “…you may be able to refer the matter to an out-of-court dispute settlement body”…

The latest debacle with the points management and display is another example of Google’s unwillingness to communicate what is going on to the people who sustain Google Maps.

I wonder whether there is anything that you don’t agree with in the Google Maps Guidelines. If there is something that you believe needs to be changed, is there a clear, transparent and timely process that you could identify to validate your change and get the guidelines updated.

In the time I have been a member of Connect I can see that there was a platform for promoting new ideas, but this was based on a short-cycle, tipping point process - this meant the likelihood of an idea getting any sort of real momentum was really low. Then this was removed and was made even less effective by being merged into the How-To forum. What I have also seen is the frustration expressed over and over when the same ideas keep coming up in posts by the starry-eyed newbies - I was one! Then the enthusiasm wanes as the reality becomes obvious that Google isn’t really interested in Google Local Guides’ opinions.

However, that just means playing the longer game. It is my intention to start a static thread which encourages and identifies all the issues that keep being raised so that momentum is achievable, and just maybe can result in positive change.

The obvious one is a management console for LGs to manage their media and reviews with proper search functions not just listing by date or views in descending order. But also cross-posting, and localised naming of business group branches.

Thanks again for responding, and I hope that you feel able to take me up on my offer of a coffee.

Cheers,

Nigel
