It’s invitation only I’m afraid, there seems to be no pattern to who gets invited. In time I presume it’ll open up to everyone.

Road Mapper is currently not available for every local guide to contribute to. Only some specific members are chosen for contribution, but you may not worry about that, stay tune and the program will be available for everyone soon.

The source of my information is the invitation email that I received from the Road Mapper Team.

I contributed about 1500KM as a tester but same like you, I’m really disappointed as there’s no rank, badge or points. The program really made me bore after using for consecutive 30 days.

Hi turbotapeworm , your comments have been a great help. It takes a lot of work to complete these. Do you have any idea if they will award points to contribute profile at any point? I am used to the gamify climb to the top and had assumed there would be points. The biggest thing learned so far is how much area does not have mapped roads and very primimative roads.

Hi @davidcox - I haven’t received any insight into the program at all but strongly suspect they won’t be awarding points any time soon or even a participation badge.

I’ve grown a little bored of it and don’t contribute very much now but some gamification would most likely get me onboard again, I’m easily led like that :joy:

In all its simplicity, the Road Mapper is quite a fun activity to do and dare I say, a bit addictive. With a feel of doing something useful to it even.

But I wonder what we are doing - is it merely adding roads to the map in Africa - or are we training a machine learning algorithm to do so automatically?

Time will tell I guess …

I fully agree it is addictive and to add to your questions I think we are providing free labor to help these areas. As well as helping the machine learning.
