My timeline is gone - unable to import back up

@DeniGu sorry to bug you, any update yet? My timeline is still missing up until the 13th of February.

Exact same issut as @RaeZyon. Recently switched to a new android smartphone (S25U). As google maps is now storing timeline data on device, I tried to import the historical data from a maps-backup of one of my older devices. I am using the same google account on all my devices. After import I realize that the improt was very patchy. Whole months show “no data”. Restarting the device did not fix this either. Also, in the improt screen not all available backups are displayed on all devices. Some devices/backups are missing that show on other devices. What is going on? Since I just lost years of location history I would really appreciate a fix! Addon: After manually deleting all timeline data on the faulty device in the google maps menu, re-importing from existing backups now results in no data at all to be recovered. The history os now completely empty. What a mess.

Same exact problem. Any follow up?

Unfortunately, nothing at all. From all the research I have done, the problem seems to narrow down to S25U devices that migrated to their new device using SmartSwitch. The only “advice” I could get that I have not tried is to factory reset the whole device. Not very useful for me since I would have to redo all the little tweaks and settings that get lost resetting. I would so much appreciate alternative advice…

I’ve actually tried, but ended up using smarts witch again. So you say I should lose my data in order to get my timeline?

Additionally, seems like my device actually successfully imported all my timeline and is recording new places. But this doesn’t show on Google maps (not even new places).
Anyone with similar situations?

No I am not suggesting this as I wont do this myself either. I think it is a ridiculous idea since it would take me more than a day without smart switch to re-set all the apps and settings in the phone. Interesting experiment (yet again, not a solution): you can set up the knox/secure folder in your device, install a new instance of maps there and import your previously backedup data. And tada: it will show thwre plus it will record new enteies. Downside is: i dont want to use the secure folder version of maps all the time…

Exactly what it looks like on my device. Any day is “no data” and manual entries qont be saved

Managed to solve!
Not sure what was the solution tho.
I’ve deleted my local timeline (trough location services) removed my Google account from my device, un installed updates from maps, updated back again, tried a backup (10th time) on my old device, and now it successfully imported everything!
One thing that I am concerned about tho, is that now I’m missing “timeline” in my location services
