Making Maps More Inclusive: Join the GAAD 2025 Celebrations!

@AlphaSays it’s been a while and we’d love to see you again. Thanks for your usual support

I will definitely be joining! It’s a wonderful opportunity for everyone to learn more about accessible contributions and how we can support more people through them. Besides that, I’m currently pursuing my postgraduation and working on my research titled ‘Exploring the Use of Assistive Technology for Learning Disabilities. Thanks for sharing @EmekaUlor

An event like this is something to celebrate! It would be wonderful if each of us could write down as many details as possible about the locations and what accessibility they can offer (remember that even if you can’t see the accessibility, it’s important to talk to the people in charge of the location, to see how they can help and make changes).

Since we are celebrating all month long, it is in place to say Happy GAAD celebration to all.
The proposed topics are very interesting and I look forward to attending.

I will add my accessibility post here subsequently.

Well done @EmekaUlor

@GasparKaren Yes! The plan is for all Local Guides to always add accessibility information anytime we have the opportunity and this way we can make significant impact.

@Annaelisa Again and again, we need to remind ourselves of the need to contribute regularly on Maps to make it more helpful for PwDs and every user.

@MrFreez Like you observed, it’s a whole month celebration as part of our 10th anniversary. So Yes, Happy GAAD!

Such an inspiring initiative! Celebrating Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) not only emphasizes the importance of inclusive digital spaces but also empowers us as Local Guides to contribute meaningfully to SDG 10: Reduced Inequality. By sharing accessibility features, we can ensure that everyone, regardless of ability, has equal access to resources and opportunities on Google Maps. This aligns perfectly with SDG 4: Quality Education, as accessible information helps foster inclusive learning environments. I’m excited to participate in this initiative!

@K.K.Sharma Sharma, you nailed it! Accessibility and inclusion are crucial factors in all the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), with the overarching aim to ‘leave no one behind.’ In addition to the SDGs you mentioned, two others are particularly relevant for Local Guides: SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

As Local Guides, our meetups enable us to partner and contribute valuable accessibility information to Google Maps, ultimately fostering more inclusive, accessible, and sustainable cities in our communities.

This is such an inspiring post! I’m a Local Guide from Pakistan, and I truly believe in the importance of making Google Maps more inclusive for everyone. Accessibility is not just a feature — it’s a necessity for millions of people around the world.

I’m excited to be part of the GAAD 2025 celebrations and will continue contributing accessibility information like wheelchair ramps, accessible restrooms, and helpful photos to support our global community. Looking forward to the upcoming webinars — there’s always so much to learn!

Thank you to the One Accessibility team and moderators for promoting such meaningful initiatives.

Hey @haroonhaider we can’t wait to see your impact on accessibility in Pakistan. Accessibility features should be a norm - we all agree on this and this is why we need to join forces together to make it a reality everywhere! Thank you for joining GAAD!

@EmekaUlor
I will gladly participate in such initiatives.
