Lucerne is a compact city in Switzerland that sits amid snow capped mountains on a lakeside I enjoyed visiting so I thought I would share my views. One of the city’s most famous landmarks is the 14th Century Chapel Bridge that spans the river Reuss. One of several bridges, this walkway bridge is a spectacular and stunning piece of architecture that immediately catches the eyes as soon as you enter the city. It is 204 meters in length and was constructed in 1333 completely made of wood. Unfortunately a lot of the original work had to be replaced following a fire in August 1993. If you take a trip in the funicular up to the grounds of Chateau Gűtsch you will get spectacular views of the city including the bridges, river and lake for your trouble (the funicular is free). Take a tourist train ride around the old city and I’m sure you’ll be inspired by the preserved medieval buildings you will come across.
Enjoy a refreshing drink or a meal in one of the abundant local bar/restaurants along the riverside while appreciating the spectacular scenery that surrounds Lucerne. Stroll through the streets taking in the sights or walk through the Chapel Bridge and look at the 30 triangular paintings that were restored after the fire, you won’t be disappointed.
