Local Guides Movers & Shakers (November, 2025)

Yes I know that I can always count on you @WilfriedB and that is much appreciated. Once I get stability back on all the Leaderboards, I’d like to resume the beta testing of some of the new features.

Thank you, @AdamGT, for your effort in creating these leaderboards to motivate the community. I noticed something you may review: your points look very high on Leaderboard #907 , and the column header for the points is missing from all he tables.

Perhaps I’m misreading your comment here @Trachemysta however, you do not need to update your leaderboard stats each time you visit some new place and contribute on Maps. You just need to do this once each month preferably on the same day (e.g. 15th, 28th or whatever day works for you). As much of the data updating is automated, it’s a fairly simple process. Simply login and check and where necessary update your data including your stars.

Absolutely @AdamGT , I meant I do keep contributing to Maps, and do not “care” about updating my data every now and then, even each month. But now with this new tool it takes indeed only a couple of minutes. the star video/photo is a different story, it takes a lot of more time as you have to update your original post, take a new screenshot, update the local guide, make sure everything is fine, etc…

I agree this part is more tedious and feels like a challenge every time. But it is only one photo and one video on one day of the whole month, so I persevere. I don’t think @AdamGT would agree with me, but the instructions seem inaccurate. I always have to figure it out on my own.

Yes, that’s why I said partially automated. I was not badly affected by the changes at the end of November, so I intend to try the Data Entry page this weekend for a mid-month update to see if there’s anything I need to understand before the end of December.

Thanks @PrasadVR for picking that obvious error. @TerryPG and @tony_b mentioned this error in there respective comments here and here. I plan to shortly go over all the November boards and correct all outstanding errors including this and the average views/day boards.

I’m pleased to hear that even as a newbie to the Leaderboards you have found that with “the new tool” updating only takes a couple of minutes. I agree that updating the stars is a different story and have some ideas on how to simplify this. Perhaps a project in the New Year. Wherever I can I try to streamline and automate the processes surrounding the integration of the Leaderboard System and Connect and hope to do more in 2026.

@AdamGT

I also agree and see this as a participation deterrent to many. It’s a difficult part of the monthly routine to automate but where there is a will there’s a way but for now let’s all persevere.

Well I agree that the instructions may confuse some and happy to see if we can simplify them so that said, here’s a challenge to all, have a go at drafting what you think will be simpler steps and add your ideas in a comment say in the star photo discussion topic. While retaining the objectives having a unified look and feel on the star albums, I do want to simplify this whole process.

I don’t think “inaccurate” is the correct word, @tony_b. I am convinced, @AdamGT does the best he can, to document each and every detail of the T100 system. But this implies two difficulties:

  • There is a lot of text not only to be read, but more importantly to understand in context and to memorize. That might be even a challenge for native English speaking people, but for sure is hard for others and if auto-translation needs to be used, it is even worse. I believe, nobody can read all at once and then understand and memorize completely. We all need to time to read, even more time to digest and read again.
  • As I worked close to (but not directly in) software development for several years, I remember designing, implementing and documenting and application, is never done by the same person and not even by the same department. The one who designs or programs something, can very take the point of view of someone who just want use a certain function. (Even given this separation of jobs, customers always liked and preferred yet another, independent documentation - but that’s another story)
I have no idea, how many independently working people are involved with the T100 system.

Just my two cents …

I agree too, and didn’t want to state my thoughts in a negative manner. Its just that sometimes my page doesn’t show me what matches those instructions, so I have to find an alternative path to complete the operation.

Oh dear me @Annaelisa, you poor girl! This reminds me of something @TerryPG once shared with us all. I do hope that he sees this

Für mich kein Problem, sondern immer griffbereit und übersichtlich. @AdamGT

Anhand der schriftlichen Aufzeichnung konnte ich auch schnell die Zahlen prüfen.

Oh I know he does LOL.

I do appreciate all this. I find it hard to know what level of detail to provide. If I dumb it down to far some will say it’s too complicated or there’s too much to read. If I provide bear bones documentation as I recently tried with T100 Maps Updater, I get the reverse response and more hand holding is needed. It’s a difficult to balancing act.

Yes that’s a good scenario. You have the designers, then the coders and the UI experts, followed by the testers/debuggers, documenters, support staff, database administrators etc

Only one human :sob:
