This has been my star photo for a while now but I haven’t updated it on the leaderboard until today! 
It replaces this previous star photo. The funny but sad story is that my previous star photo was doing pretty well until somebody took a screenshot of it and uploaded it to Maps, causing the cloned copy to replace mine as the featured photo. Anyway, by luck, another photo of mine was doing pretty well too and eventually became my star photo. This photo was taken whilst I was walking towards the meeting point for a meet-up. I didn’t get a chance to actually visit the art museum so this photo was my only ‘souvenir’, and now it’s my star photo!

This is the photo with the most views I have currently in Google Maps. I took it on March 1, 2022 using my Android Smartphone (Samsung, probably an S20), and it shows the main plaza of the University of Lima, Peru 
. Behind the plaza, you can see two modern pavilions inaugurated around that time as part of a university expansion and modernization project.

This photo is one in a series taken in a cosy small restaurant in Cologne we found accidentally. Having liked it, I’ve decided to write a review and add pictures of the food, drinks, and the place. Hard to say why it was the cup of coffee that drew people’s attention among the whole series (the food got 100,000+ views). Taken in 2019 and with the same number of views for a few recent months, it’s still my most viewed photo, though some recent pics keep gaining views. I hope to a change in star pics soon.

I wish there was some great story to go with the photo, but I just drove to the strip mall and took photos of each storefront. I latter figured out that is was best to just take photos of restaurants/food locations. About 28 out of 30 of my most viewed photos are of places that serve food.

I took this photo from the bus while passing through the university on the way from Mecca to Jabal Rahmah on September 24, 2022. I was lucky to be able to photograph the university building with an interesting angle from a running bus. I thought this was not my best photo. I took this photo using my smartphone, Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1-X00TD. Here’s a link to this POI on Maps.

This was one of the first images I uploaded for Google Maps after I joined 11th January 2020. I took the majority of my initial photos when I was out walking - usually with my dog, a small Cavachon, called Bertie. I took this with the iPhone 10 Pro Max. He has gotten so used to me stopping to take pictures he just sits and waits patiently for me to finish! I find restaurant/food provider images often do better than most of the other pictures I take.
This is not the best photo I have taken. This has now been replaced as the featured picture after 3 years. I was expecting the photo with the next highest number of views, Argos, to surpass my star - then after the Google count reconfiguration, it closed! Since December 2024, I have seen a 20% increase in the weekly viewing figures. I initially thought this was a Christmas thing, but the increase in activity has been maintained - with the odd 5 days of inactivity thrown in. I also see that most of my images are getting views from the first day they are posted. I’m not suggesting that things are now fixed. However over the last four months I have felt reasons to be optimistic again. Looking through April ‘25, I can see that a number of my top pictures have increased their viewing figures several times. Now in July '25 I can see that about 30-40% of my top photos are showing regular increases.
I find that images of the food I have from takeaways do very well very quickly then the performance often flattens out. This is because these images appear in the ‘Explore’ tab
As of 28th May 2026 there are two active images in the number one spot of their respective POIs that are about half a million views behind. I have also noticed that three of my top 10 photos that had dropped out of their respective galleries, have now been pllaced back in the top position. I haven’t seen any increase in views as a result, but I am keeping a close eye.
Looking back to April 2026 from July 2026 compared to the year before I can see a rise of 40% views. I can also see that my views per image per month are increasing at 300% for videos over photos. I thought @TerryPG might enjoy that.

This is a screenshot of my current star photo. It was taken during my trip to Myanmar. One of the many attractions I experienced during my 3-week stay in Myanmar was a small boat ride on Inle Lake.

This unique photo of the store signage in Chinese writing (Calligraphy) was taken during the day as I was buying some snacks. It is one of my very few photos that has gone on to pass 2 million views up to Feb 2026.

The calm before the sweat storm! Here is the Hopkins, MN LA Fitness storefront, looking deceptively peaceful under a bright, partly cloudy sky. Captured just moments before heading inside to crush a workout, this casual pre-gym snapshot became an absolute, unexpected smash hit. Clocking in at over 1.6 million views, it easily takes the crown as the best-performing photo to date. It just goes to show that sometimes the quickest, everyday snaps make the biggest impact on the map!

I took this photo of the in October 2022 using iPhone 13 Pro. I think the other side of the building is more visually appealing, and I have a better photo of that side as well. However, the Google algorithm chose this photo as the main photo for the museum. I believe this is because this side of the building is more public and easier to see from the metro. I have been watching as my photo of this Museum overtakes my previous star photo. My previous star photo’s views have been stagnant for a while now, probably because it is no longer the main photo for that restaurant.

I took this photo inside of the Basilica. It is a religious place and a destination for many pilgrims.
This Basilica is located on a hill and dominates the city of Vicenza from above. The view from this place is very beautiful.
