Finally I found the time to write the useful information for this Leaderboards, for which I really thank @AdamGT (as well as thank him for all his other wonderful initiatives!)
Here the information of my “Star photo” portrayed above:
This is my “star photo”, which currently has 2,315,532 views
Maps category: High school; the photograph shows the “Armellini” higher technical institute (dedicated to an illustrious Italian engineer and mathematician who lived a century ago)
The photo was taken on March 3, 2016
It is certainly not my best photo: other photos, much better, I took around Rome, as well as in the beautiful St. Paul’s Basilica (almost as big as St. Peter’s, and certainly older, having been built well 16 centuries fa), which is located a few tens of meters from this photograph, in the next block.
The portrayed place is very popular with young people, tourists and pilgrims; also the students who intend to attend this High School contribute to making this photo a “Star Photo”
The reason for the many views is linked, in addition to the above reasons (see the nearby S. Paul’s Basilica, mentioned in the previous point), also to the presence of the garden that can be seen in the photo, where often - before this sad period - many guys met to listen to music and go to the pubs in the area.
This photo was taken with my previous Sony D6503 Xperia Z2 smartphone.
I can’t wait to read (so I hope) also my name in the list of “Star photos”, but even if I will not be present, I will still be happy to have participated in this beautiful initiative!
Thanks again, @AdamGT
Your star photo details have been added to the Leaderboards. Thank you for following the entry requirements and for your patience while waiting for this update. Your entry in the leaderboards is numbered as [5] in the #1.9 Leaderboard and clicking your Connect Username there should take you to your entry which will help you check for any errors or omissions that I may have made. Do let me know if you find any.
Is it my best photo? I’m not going to order a print and frame it; it’s not exciting, not dynamic, nor “photogenic”. It has no points of interest. It’s mostly in focus .
Why do I think it’s my “star photo”? It’s the featured photo for a popular local store; it shows the entrance lobby clearly and openly, and encapsulates what the store is about, what you might get there, and how easy it might be to navigate.
I think the important factors that contribute to making a top photo are: Being featured, which is a mysterious art in itself. If you can take a good clear shot that sums up a location, you’re in with a chance.
The camera I used is: LG G5 Smart Phone (LG-H850)
May Kudos and Likes shower down upon you @AdamGT !
If the kudos rains keep pouring like this then I’ll have no choice but to keep working on these leaderboards @deadmanjones in the rain Like any statistical study, with studies like this the more that join in the more meaningful can be our observations of the data. I’ll add your “star photo” in the next update. Well done on it being the featured photo of the craft shop even though it is a rather ordinary photo!
The Maps Category of my Star Photo is Restaurant and the photo is just a quick snap taken outside an Indian style Chienese Hakka restaurant in Toronto.
I took/uploaded this photo on: 30 June 2017 (Source: Photo’s metadata Date created )
Is it my best photo? No.
Why do I think it’s my “star photo”? Maybe lots of people are looking for Indian style Chinese food (Remember Indian version is completely different than real Chinese food) this was searched and access these many times. The food of this restaurant is awesome and not expensive.
I think the important factors that contribute to making a top photo are:
(a) How long the photo has been online
(b) Specific interest of the viewer
The camera I used is: LG G5 smartphone camera
The total number of views on this photo are: 2,189,156
The Leaderboards of Most Viewed Photos have now been updated for entries by @amitgtiwari , @brunoslee , @deadmanjones and @Jb-Tranquille .Thank you for following the entry procedure and for your patience while waiting for this update. Your entry on the leaderboards are numbered in square brackets and clicking your Connect Username there should take you to your entry which will help you check for any errors or omissions that I may have made. Hi @AdamGT and other Connect members who have contributed their photo figures to Adam’s Leader Boards,
I just wanted to mention that I have learned a lot about what kind of photos the Google map readers appreciate since I started sending Adam my photo information in late November / early December. I am seeing that readers appreciate photos which have at least one, preferably two clear features pertinent to the Local Guide’s comment. A clear photo of an off-street parking lot for a business on a busy street that shows up-to-date painted lines delineating parking spaces, proximity and height of sidewalk curbing surrounding the parking spots, and handicap accessible ramp(s) if any - important for a medical business such as a physical therapist - is more important and more likely to be viewed than a photo of the beautiful landscaping around the business. Fewer accurate photos seem to have a higher viewing rate than more so-so photos.
Adam, thank you so much for instituting these time-consuming, but important projects. They helped me considerably.
A wonderful and blessed New Year to all participants,
Thank you for your positive comments @Cercis and you make some very interesting observation about what photos perform best. I’m pleased that like me through this series of photo leaderboard posts you are learning how to improve your photo contributions. I believe that sharing our data in this way opens the door to this learning and if it were not for this Connect platform, we would not have this opportunity. I know that some might be intimidated by these leaderboards and might consider that their photos are not good enough or their photo views are not enough to participate but of course this is incorrect because the leaderboards are broken down into Local Guide levels creating a reasonable level playing field. In this way, Local Guides at all levels can join in and learn how to improve their photo contributions. There are many examples of this including yourself @Cercis , a Level 5 Local Guide showing one of the highest growth rates (43.6%) on the Top 100 Photo Views leaderboards, and @TGP13 , a Level 3 Local Guide, who is a superstar on the Average Views per Photo Leaderboard. with an average views per photo above many much higher level Local Guides. It just goes to show, you don’t have to be a Level 10 Local Guide to be a star!
That’s quite a massive increase in average views per day for your star photo @MortenCopenhagen . Once again it’s a pity that this data is not public and I wonder why that is! given that we set our Google Maps profile to public!
As you will see I’ve modified the Leaderboards of Most Viewed Photos to allow for the updating of the number of views of star photos. By adding a ‘star views date’ readers of these leaderboards can at least get some sense of things. Of course the views count of all photos, including our star photos, changes dynamically and as the leaderboards are all being maintained manually, so I propose to update these leaderboards once per month for those that submit their updated star photo views count before the update. In the absence of being able to access this data directly which would allow me to update the views count of star photos of all participating Local Guides, I really can’t think of any other way to this.
@AdamGT I understand the once per month update mechanism and the reason why. Can you give me an idea of +/- when you intend to do the next update? It would make more sense that I would give you a fresh number around that time.
