I am Amrita Roy from Kolkata but now live in Daman with my family.
I reviewed mainly different places and eateries with details that is known to me or experienced by me with photographs (clicked by me) in Google Map.
I do this and now almost becomes my habit for last perhaps 7 to 8 years from now as a local guide but I didn’t know about the existence of this beautiful community and their activities. I’m very much pleased to know about West Bengal Local Guide community and other state wise communities very recently and really happy to join them. Now I am watching how this community functions actually and in future I hope to contribute and share my thoughts and views in a helpful way for the community as much as I can.
This is my first post to Connect Forum so I invite all the members to advise me about what more can I post and if anything is missed in this introduction.
To keep things nicely organized, there is a thread here on Connect every month where newcomers can introduce themselves - as you just did - so I have merged your post into that one. Please do check out the other new Connect users that have just introduced themselves and why not say hello to them as well?
Hi there @JessicaBerg best of luck catching up to the level 9 of your husband
Great to hear you are attending the event in Key West; as participant in several similar events in Europe (and host of one in 2019) I can assure you, that you’re in for a spectacular experience. Local Guides are simply extremely fun to hang out with!
Ty @janvanhaver! I have been having a fantastic time and yes, the Local Guides at this meetup are so much fun! I hope even more guides go to next year’s event.
Hi all! I figured I’d jump in and introduce myself as well since I just joined this week.
Name: Jason
Location: the Seattle, Washington, USA area, but I am a transplanted Canadian having lived here for the past 15 years.
What led you to become a Local Guide: I can still remember where I was the very first time that the Google Maps app on my Android phone prompted me to upload the photo I had just taken. I was at a local McDonald’s restaurant with my wife and two-year-old son, who was playing in the jungle gym play area.
My favorite thing to explore: I am an amateur photographer, and one of the things what I like to do is contribute high-quality photos to any restaurants that I visit. Most people don’t know how to take good pictures of food, and it pains me when I see a restaurant that lacks good photos of their food. I feel like I can help them out by showing their food in the best way possible. I also enjoy adding new things to Google Maps or updating existing entries with accurate information to help other people. Though I’d be lying if I said it wasn’t frustrating to contribute an update and see it be blocked.
Fun fact about me: community program management is my profession, so any time I engage in a community like this, I’m curious to learn and evaluate how the people in charge manage the community.

My name is Govind . By profession, I am dedicated to keeping things moving smoothly with the Indian Railways, a job that requires precision, a sharp eye for detail, and a deep sense of responsibility. But when I am off duty, my passion shifts toward a different kind of network—the global map that connects us all.
As a Level 6 Local Guide based in Punjab and patna, India, I see Google Maps not just as a tool for navigation, but as a living, breathing community built on trust. My journey as a Local Guide started with a simple thought: whenever I visit a new place, I rely heavily on the honest feedback of strangers. I wanted to pay that kindness forward.
Whether I am capturing the intricate architecture of historic temples during my travels to holy towns, exploring local food spots, or reviewing remote train stations to help daily commuters find essential amenities, my goal is always the same—accuracy and helpfulness. I believe a great review isn’t just about saying a place is “good” or “bad”; it’s about sharing the finer details, like wheelchair accessibility, parking availability, or the best time of day to capture the perfect 8K-quality sunset photo.
Being a Local Guide has transformed the way I look at the world. It has turned me from a passive traveler into an active storyteller. Receiving the 100 GB Google One perk was an incredible milestone, but my ultimate dream is to connect with this inspiring global community at the next Summit. I want to share my unique perspective from India, learn from top guides across the globe, and find new ways to make Google Maps an even more powerful tool for everyone.
Thank you for reading my story, and see you on the Maps!
