How to Report Forced or Incentivized Reviews on Google Maps

Wow, interesante hallazgo @Trail_blazer!!

Thanks @LightRich Hopefully it rolls out to other regions as well. :+1:t2:

This is a great find @Trail_blazer . I also do not have the “Report a business conduct” I have just run across a new business with over 30 reviews in the first few days that look Fake, all giving 5 stars. Maybe it’s still rolling out in North America.

Thanks @TerryPG that tells how urgent and important this feature is.

Thanks for this fabulous update @Trail_blazer

Nicely illustrated with steps and screenshot :+1: very helpful.

This feature is much needed and easy to access to use for common local guides to stop spam and malpractices by businesses on Google Maps.

However, I noticed that they need evidence files, whereas I was offered to write a favorable review during a F2F conversation.

Thankyou @TusharSuradkar that you find it useful.

Who asked for evidence files ? The form here just need a url and email id. In case being forced to put a favourable review one can only report the place there can’t be an evidence in many cases however in case of incentivised reviews there can be various evidence like placard, coupons, vouchers and pamplet which can act as an evidence.

Google Maps asks for evidence files @Trail_blazer, without which the report cannot be submitted.

Yes that’s @TusharSuradkar true and slight way to fool proof that’s reports are genuine. I have discussed this earlier in the comments that in verbal cases it’s tough to mark such thing. There is also narrow line if asking for a mere review can be qualified as an unethical practices. But generally for incentivised reviews the evidences exist. I visit a clothing Store in Lajpat Nagar they asked me to rate the place they had the placard I told them it’s a malpractice. The store is super good I have no issues with and i already rated even before this placard thing. I told them despite such good service you have resort to this.
The individual reporting can be done for such verbal incident but to make reporting genuine evidence act as check balance.

That’s a bummer @Trail_blazer

Which means one cannot easily report such businesses that are careful about not leaving any photographic evidence of malpractices.

Yeah @TusharSuradkar they must allow for audio recording files as well :joy:

Not only that, @TusharSuradkar. In the case, I did see a couple of days ago, I was too embarrassed to make a photo at the cashier’s desk while paying.

@WilfriedB In India business owners copy the URL of POI and make a QR code of it and stick it on foot by foot size cardboard and ask people to scan and rate the place. One need not to scan right away they can click a photograph which can serve all the purposes. If someone forces you to type and rate the place you can always edit the review and change the ratings I think it’s pretty simple as usual but unnecessarily a business can’t be bombarded with fake complaints it’s better to have check and balance than having a reporting system like we have photos and profile which any one can report anytime and no wonder it hardly seems to work.

The feature is available here in the us. It is slightly different from the other two versions that have been posted. I’m trying to attach screenshots but I’m having difficulty so they may be separate posts.

As you can see no real evidence required.
My favorite hardware store has one of the big QR codes posted with a request for a good review if you enjoyed their service. I don’t believe there is any issue with them posting something like that or even asking for a review. Unless of course there is any kind of pressure or incentive.

Thanks @Rednewt74 for commenting. The feature seems exactly same as here in India. The evidences and options you think not available there, appear when you select any of the two choices. Most people don’t practice this exercise so they may not know. I myself haven’t done any. But like I said in the comments earlier merely asking for a review for good service isn’t a bad call at all. But I believe there is still some space for discussion and talk. If gmaps makes this process super easy and straight forward I’m sure there will be issues. Blaming malpractice is serious thing than just reporting bunch of bad photos and videos.

Its a great detailed writeup for fake or spam review reporting
