@tony_b In my country, it seems approvals are automatic for Pharmacies, hospitals, ATM machines, banks and more. Many don’t exist and are added. Removing them is a challenge. How they get approved is nothing short of baffling.

non-meaningful places are actually pretty helpful, if the pin is hidden and it can only be shown when someone is looking for nearby objects. But non-existent places are false and misleading and should be removed.
@TerryPG and @MortenCopenhagen What do you consider best-practice when adding a photo to verify a new POI? Twice recently I experienced that the added photo gets published in my Contribution list with no name, and when the new POI later gets approved, the original photo remains nameless and doesn’t pick up the name. Meanwhile, the now recently approved POI becomes accessible and searchable by name, but that photo is not attached to it. Last time I deleted the photo and re-uploaded it again, but I suspect there must be a better way to incorporate it in the initial process. .

This happens almost 50 percent of the times I create a new place with a photo. The photo does not stick and needs to be deleted and re-uploaded. Exactly as you described it.
Currently it is a long time since it last happened to me. It could be because it got fixed or because I haven’t added places lately.
The solution should be that the system get fixed. And in the mean time we should keep an eye on this problem. Only attach one image when creating a new place, or give in and not add any photos until after the place is approved. This would be quicker for us but only applicable for places with plenty of verifiable data points.
I believe we need a few well documented cases with plenty of screenshots to get this escalated. The cases should allow the system sufficient time to reattach the two. Maybe more than 4 weeks.

Hi @tony_b exact same thing happens to me , and as @MortenCopenhagen mentioned about 50% of the time. So I go through the same procedure as you tony when it hasn’t recognized my original photo that I sent them. I will use the email they sent me( “Your edit is now live”) to add the photo “again”`.
Does seem to be a bit of a waste of time.
Don’t you delete the image in your contribution list before uploading it again?

I’ve since been back to take a different photo and posted it. Will watch the old one for a few more days before removing and uploading again.

@kayvonk Perhaps to a select few, but it adds noise (clutter) to maps. I have seen placemarks for mailboxes, fire hydrants, sewer manholes, shipping docks doors at Walmart, Costco, and other non-useful POIs which aren’t. Perhaps it was me who was removing these placemarks you added? Lol.
Although most of these minor items get hidden from the map and are invisible unless you use the directory, fire hydrants, sewer manholes, shipping docks, doors, and mailboxes have no applicable tag on google maps, so I don’t know why they got added, but what tags were they categorized as? I don’t add stuff that does not have an applicable category on Google, but for them, the people who add that stuff need to edit OpenStreetMap instead, because they support those tags.
For individual mailboxes they categorize them as a post office. Manholes and the rest are classified as City Transportation or whatever the troll wants to select incorrectly to rack up their points. .
I’m trying to edit a pizzeria by adding their new contact details, but Google always rejects it! Even though it’s the right number, does anyone know why and what to do?
