How can I add 360 panorama photo spheres on Streetview now that the mobile app is "going away"?

A última vez que fiz o upload de uma imagem tem três meses, e foi tudo bem.

Fiz um teste, a para minha surpresa aconteceu o que já acontecia antes, mas muito mais rápido. Pois quando eu enviava uma foto panorâmica para um local o Google Mapas demorava alguns dias para posicioná-la no local correto. A foto enviada ontem de teste para o autor inicial da pergunta já foi imediatamente enviada (posicionada) para o local correto.

Antes de prosseguir devo dizer que vou remover a imagem enviada, pois foi somente para fins de teste.

Escolhi um lugar no Brasil que conheço intimamente bem, deserto para não prejudicar ninguém, e com uma área enorme, uma fazenda.

Abri a foto panorâmica. Alterei os dados “exif” para o local que eu gostaria de ver a foto posicionada dentro de uma área específica do local. E enviei a foto associado ao lugar que a foto pertence, a fazenda.

* Essa é a coordenada original da foto, alterei os dados exif de geolocalizaçao para a imagem ser posicionada onde eu queria, no local abaixo.

Foto enviada associada ao local Fazenda Guarita, e posicionada no mapa nas coordenadas que coloquei nos dados exif.

Morten, é esse procedimento que sempre fiz ao invés de utilizar o app do Street View. Sempre funcionou assim. A surpresa e diferença é que desta vez a foto foi posicionada rapidamente.

I will say that I think @MarcoDavoli 's comment helps highlight a fundamental problem with Google’s approach.

No photo is of one “thing” or “place”. Consider the following.

Is it a photo of…
…the Welsh Parliament Building?
…boats?
…a big wheel?
…Roald Dahl Place (the plaza)?
…the harbour master’s building (with the clocktower)?

Should I add it to Google Maps lots of times, once for each of the “places” shown?

We could say it’s of “Cardiff Bay”, but we can also see the skyscrapers of the city centre in the top left. So do we just say it’s of “Cardiff”? Okay, but it’s not the whole of Cardiff, and even if that is what we decide, where do we locate the photo on the map? Cardiff is a big place

This is an even bigger problem for panoramas, where the camera points in all directions. The only sensible conclusion is to place the photo on the map where the photo was taken from. A clear single point. And of course we understand that if we drop pegman on the blue line of a road on a Google Map, we will see the view from that perspective. It’s not a panoramic photo of that point on the road (because it’s meaningless to even say such a thing). It’s a panoramic photo taken from that point on the road. So surely, if Google wish to accept user donated contributions (which they obviously do), then they should allow them to be displayed in the same way they show their own imagery. Especially in the case of panoramic images.

Oficialmente o Google __*__não proibiu a inserção de imagens photosphere em qualquer local do mapa. Eu não encontrei nenhum texto dizendo isso.

No entanto, para Local Guides há a informação que se você deseja continuar ganhando pontos com suas Contribuições de photospheres é necessário que você envie a foto através do Google Mapas e obrigatoriamente a associe a um local - empresa, parque , atração etc.

Apesar de não haver __*__nenhuma proibição explícita nesse sentido, na prática o Google está dificultando o envio de photospheres não associados a um local - eu pessoalmente acho isso uma perda de conteúdo para o mapa.

Através do Google Mapas, atualmente você só consegue enviar imagens - comum ou photosphere - associando a um lugar. Antes era possível enviar imagens colocando as coordenadas no campo “Select place” e após clicar em “Search for”, mais as coordenadas e enviava a photosphere.

Seu photosphere era colocado na coordenada escolhido no mapa, sem necessidade de associar a um lugar e de quebra ganhava pontos no Local Guide. Sempre optei por essa forma ao invés de utilizar o aplicativo Street View. Essa possibilidade foi encerrada juntamente com o fim do aplicativo Street View.

Os aplicativos de terceiros que constrói passeios (ou constelações) de photospheres, que são indicados pelo Google, que publicam diretamente no Google Mapas através de uma conta Google vinculado, a exemplo do TourMake, como descrevi aqui nos meus testes, também não aceitam mais trabalhos soltos no mapa. Os trabalhos tem que estar vinculado a um local.

Diante destes sinais parece, a mim, que o Google Mapas não está interessado em photosphere solta no mapa e nem de photospheres feitas diretamente com câmera de telefone.

__*__Até esse momento que escrevo não há nenhuma proibição em artigos das Centrais de Ajuda do Google Mapas informando que photospheres não podem ser enviados sem estar associado a um local. No entanto, todos os artigos da Central indicam que você deve associar seu photosphere a um lugar.

I am 100% with you on this @tarantulatim . I take photos from “unknown place” all the time. Probably near 100% of my 360 photo spheres are not of a specific place. For example - DroneShot

I recently went on a short trip and took ~70 more drone shot panos that I want to upload. The issue is this new method of only tagging to a place is a mess. I can add the photo, but it shows location at the specific location of the place, In this case, it is about 2000’ away from where the actual photo was taken. Not useful.

I had been using streetview to make these happen, but since it is gone, I am searching for a new solution.

There appears to be a Streetview photos API that may respect the GPs coords and also allow for uploading without a specific place noted, but since I am not a programmer, I started to get very lost when reading through the API Documentation. It looks like there are some Python code samples that may do what I (we) want to do, but I cannot find a specific walk through to make it happen. Anyone have a background in working with Google’s API’s and python?

A API Street View Publish para criaçao de aplicativos para postar fotos diretamente no Google Mapas, recentemente alterou sua documentação e não é mais permitido aos aplicativos baseados nessa ferramenta postar photosphere no mapa sem estar vinculado a um lugar.

Nesse artigo eu descrevi que testei todos os aplicativos de terceiros indicados na página do Street View para envio de fotos panorâmicas. Todos eles são baseados na API Street View Publish, e não permitem mais o envio de imagens panorâmicas sem associação a um local.

it takes a long time for google to process the “blue line”.

by shutting down the street view app - I learned something

Após gerar os vídeos faça o upload pela ferramenta Street View Studio.

Hoje: Os trabalhos enviados pelo site Street View Studio não contam pontos ou qualquer participação para o Programa Local Guides. Os vídeos não ficam disponíveis na sua Galeria do Google Mapas. Mais informações clique aqui.

The studio was designed for uploading 360 videos only.

You can upload individual 360 photos to existing places on Google Maps. Just use the same procedure used to upload still images.

If you want to upload virtual tours (a series of 360 images linked together with navigation arrows) you will need to use a 3-party paid service.

Thank you @MortenCopenhagen and @gmapas but my question is that @RihardsFromLatvia seems to have a method to insert photos in google street view studio as a video. He seems to fake the system to let it believe that it is a video 360.

that method, to convert your still photos to video using jpg2vid tool posted here is a real headache…

to post one blue line with 10 photos takes ages (actually 30+ days).

eventually, even after the google processing that line, it could give some stupid error like “bad GPS data in your video” and fail to post it

The new ideology is to add 360-photos for “Known places only” but it’s a great pain to add Places to Google maps. I will tell you an example, there is a Mount Baborska in Little Carpathians which is depicted on all topographical maps, which is present on the Open Street Map, mentioned in Wikipedia, tourist guides, which is a popular tourist location etc. I tried to add this place to Google maps and received a stupid answer that “We cannot verify that the place exists, rejected”. Then I found a next place which had a wrong location so I tried to correct the location. The answer was “We cannot verify your edit, rejected”.

There is a HUGE problem with Google bureaucracy when someone tries to add a new place.

I found a solution, well, I was chatting with an awesome programmer that is active on facebook groups that built a toolset called UL2GSV. He built a new jpg2gsv tool to use the API to upload photos. Here is his project page - https://groups.google.com/g/jpg2gsv. I have donated to him and I recommend everyone do the same! As for how this works in my drone process - I capture the 360 photos with my drone, transfer the original folder of photos to my pc, stitch then with hugin (https://github.com/RookieITSec/HuginPanoScript), make sure they are all good, then use the jpg2gsv tool to upload all the completed photos to GSV. I also have a similar workflow with photos taken with my Insta360 x3 - after working through the problems Insta has with their firmware (GPS metadata tags super incorrect on Pureshot photos - I found taking regular JPG spheres has the correct GPS data), I do basically the same thing - capture the photo, copy to my computer, use the insta360 studio software to export the photo, check the photo, then upload with the jpg2gsv tool.

“Google will no longer accept single 360 images uploaded to random sets of GPS coordinates.” I find this quite bizarre actually. Photospheres can show some very amazing places - place that many people cannot get to but would like to see. For me, i have taken a huge amount of photospheres in the wild and remote bush of Australia, all of which don’t have pins. I have tens of thousands of views of my photoshperes, so they’re clearly wanted and enrich the Google Maps universe. So to stop this ability seems to be at odds at what Google was trying to achieve - to map the world. There are so many places that are not on roads, but in remote areas, that people want to see.
