My apologies for a bit misleading post previously.
As I was following up with the latest update that @ryane_pa kindly shared, should the List created beforehand (it appears to be deleted), if the sharing option to be changed into Public could turn out to be acceptable, as you have also suggested).
This all seems to work as advertised after I deleted the old list and created a new one solely from android maps app using @sonnyNg link - https://support.google.com/maps/answer/7280933?co=GENIE.Platform%3DAndroid&oco=1 . I think things got a little wonky on my previous list because I created a private list and edited on both computer and android and then made public. I didn’t have all the features of a Public list like changing list order,
picking photos for each entry and that weird “group” vs “public” thing appeared.

I do notice that the list order i created on android maps app doesn’t carry over to computer maps nor does the photo I selected for each place.
Some of what you see could be solved by it self fter servers are synchronized. In my experience the order and pics are stable across platforms.
I suggest you only edit one note field at a time before saving on Android.
@MortenCopenhagen I’ll try that to see if it helps keep things synced. I have 15 more placces to add with notes. UGH!! LOL
Happy I am getting the experience I expected on the android app. I’ll have to remember to ask people in my area to see if my list appears in their “explore” section. I’m just guessing but the more views and followers I could get would help me bubble up towards the top of some metric that would give me better chances of being featured. Once I complete my list I’m sending the link to my local Celiac FB group and that should help boost some stats. 
I just took a look at your revised Android list @ryane_pa and I LOVE IT!!! Great information and the pic of the full rainbow over the Chick-fil-A is absolutely stunning — NICE JOB!!!
Thank you @CatC , I am much happier with the new list. I can’t take credit for taking the photos, each place on the list allows you to select a cover photo from their google maps photo library. I was just lucky enough to find it and select it.
An update: the list on the computer version of maps doesn’t sync the cover photo or list order set from android maps app. I even tried to change/add one thing at a time and save yet it never synced back to the computer. it’s totally random what photo or order is seen from the computer.
