Hello @adring22 , Thank you for sharing your Solo Hiking story. Also, I love the pictures you shared.
Thanks @adring22 , a great story about your ascend of Mt Kinabalu! Indeed a bucket list destination in Malaysia.
It very much reminded me of my own journey to the top of this mountain in 2014 together with my daughter. We followed the same itinerary including the rise at 2 AM. The way down was heavier than the the way up - my daughter slid down on on of these slippery slopes you also show, and I got bad pain in my knees so our guide had to get another guide to bring up walking sticks.
The most dangerous part of the trip was probably the taxi ride back to Kota Kinabalu - we missed the little van due to the slow and painful descend …
Anyway, it was all worth it of course.
Keen to hear about your next adventure!
Cheers
Hermes

Hi, @adring22 , this mountain is so beautiful and the clouds from the summit look clear. Definitely, this is an inspiration for me. I wish I can climb a mountain in my life. I haven’t tried yet, @adring22 and I’m the university table tennis player: a bit aggressive with a lot of stamina. What do you recommend for me to climb a peak? Do I need to take any training or start with climbing smaller mountains first?
@adring22 Wow! that’s a major achievement! Well done!
@adring22 This trek looks amazing… I really like the photos.
Hey @FazeelUsmani !! Thank you and great question. I think anyone can climb a mountain with some preparation and a great mind set. I would say start off with a small local mountain something in 800 to 1000m range. Go on a good day and with some friends. It really makes it more enjoyable. I think once you decide to try higher altitudes… I would definitely recommend doing some endurance and strength training. I will post one of my workouts to help soon. All the best!
@adring22 Love this post and thanks for sharing such a positive adventure about my country Malaysia! I’ve only been to Sabah once and it was a long time ago and all I can remember is the amazing and fresh seafood! I would love to give Mount Kinabalu a try! It sounds painful but fun! Thanks for inspiring me to add it to my bucket list!
Not sure if it was mentioned in any of your replies (sorry, I didn’t read every comment on this post), but do you have a list of what you would consider to be essential gear needed for the climb? Thanks in advance!
@adring22 well done on your achievements. You set a goal and conquered! Really love the way you wrote your post. Thank you
Thanks a lot! @adring22 for the advice. Sure, I’ll try climbing small mountains first. Yeah, I do running and strength exercises but now gyms are closed here in India because of lockdown. So, I can try after the lockdown.
Sure, will be waiting for your workouts.
