I enjoyed ready your post with great tips, and I have to say, also the additional tips added by @SilvyC , @SalmaanN , @Globe_trotter_Ish , and @LaloPadilla which I’m certain will be of interest to many other Local Guides.
I agree with you that being a Local Guide "is not a competition, there are no winners and losers." Well, sort of agree as I have just a small variation! I believe that being a Local Guide "is not a competition, there are no losers we are all winners." Though there is an element of gamification in the Local Guides program, I truly believe that we are all winners!

I couldn’t agree more with you @AdamGT , it’s a win-win situation (even if some people don’t see it that way).
I have always felt that my contributions to both Google Maps and Crowdsource are just a small retribution for all that Google does for me on a daily basis.

Photography is a integral part of Google Maps; not just that but also wholesome reviews are important.
Meet people, get more opinions and review in better ways.
Visit different places to know more about them thoroughly and correlate with previous experience.
Let businesses and people get to know about uses of Google Maps.

Coincido en que disfrutarlo es clave para mantener la motivacion y calidad en los aportes. Lo mas lindo del programa local guides para mi siempre fue (y es ) el hecho de que cada uno puede encontrar el camino que le gusta: ya sea en la fotografia, la escritura u otras habilidades o áreas de interés, para todos hay un espacio donde brillar
