1000+ roads in Google Maps

grazie @ErmesT

interessante la possibilità di Get started with Geo Data Upload

magari sentiamoci in privato (mail, whatsapp, facebook, dovresti riuscire a trovarmi facilmente col nickname)

Does anyone else have access to this enhanced mapping tool via a browser other than @ErmesT ?

I can’t wait @turbotapeworm , to see someone else with access to this tool, at least to be able to exchange experiences and feelings.

Right now I feel really alone :disappointed:

What I am actually trying to do is to “stress” the tool, adding road all over the world, to see if the physical position matters in adding road.

My feeling is that no, it doesn’t matter “where” you are". The only important thing is that the road MUST BE clearly visible in satellite mode, for Google to approve it, and your edit must be very accurate.

Probably tomorrow my contribution pop-up will shows 1200+ road added, so I think that the 2000 roads target will be easily reached before the end of the year.

Can’t wait to see you, and many others, playing with the editor, as it can makes an impressive change in the information available in Google Maps

Trust me @ErmesT , the moment I get my hands on this it will become my new obsession :slightly_smiling_face:

In the meantime you’re doing a great job and hopefully helping 1000s of people in the meantime.

Woohoo!!!

Hello @ErmesT

Help !!! Does the desktop road editor depend on location to work??? It seems my access is gone, what did I do wrong?

Although, I am now in Liberia and I tried to draw roads normally on my mobile but it gives this message of We can’t fix map issues in this region yet"…etc. is that why the access is gone or what?

Rsvp.

Hi @SholaIB , it is not an issue in your account. There are many places where, for different reasons, it is not actually possible to add Roads, and Liberia is one of them. Sorry about that, I hope Google will be able to extend the program worldwide as soon as possible.

Sorry for being so late in this conversation, @turbotapeworm , @LightRich

@turbotapeworm , I see you are close to 500 approved roads. I think that the first feedback about the increasing number of contributors is that the approval time increased, so I have roads approved in batches, mostly related to the geographic location of the edits (the road approved together are very close to each other).

I am happy @LightRich that you have this tool available, Ricardo. You and @LaloPadilla (he reached 1000 roads in June of this year) can indeed do a great activity, and I am quite sure that others will join you.

@NareshDarji joined the 1K club two days ago, increasing the group.

I am actually a bit over 2k, and I keep running :slightly_smiling_face:

It’s moving in the right direction @ErmesT but approvals still seem a little random, there are many roads that I added months ago that are still pending approval yet ones added in recent weeks have gone through already.

There’s no real pattern to this, most of the pending ones are incredibly visibly on the satellite view so shouldn’t take much verification, it just seems like there’s some “stuck” in a list somewhere. Hopefully things will catch up over time and they won’t just be lost but the new tool is definitely a vast improvement and with the right back-end support for it hopefully end users will benefit over time with improved navigation.

Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on who you are) my active areas are already pretty well mapped so I don’t see me joining the 1000+ club any time soon, especially with the approval delays, but I’ll get there one day :slightly_smiling_face:

I have the same feeling, @turbotapeworm , about approvals, with hundreds of road pending.

However a parking lot that I added less than 24 hours ago has been approved just now

In the area where I live most of the road are in Maps, but we can always focus on different options, like Parking lots (one added just now) and Hiking / Walking trails. Italy is an area with a lot of mountains, a huge amount of trails mostly not mapped, and several missing roads in the middle of the mountains

In addition, using my experience of adding road in the mountains, I started to contribute in the Andes, in the range of mountains between Argentina, Chile and Peru, adding entire villages, and connecting them with the existing highways (sometimes with road that are more than 10 Km long).

There is a lot to do for good in there

Have a fun

Not easy to add a road! I tried… but I am using a Chromebook that is not particularly powerful. I am not sure if that has anything to do with it anyway! I’ve added a place… and that has been helping a lot of people on maps, I get an email every once in awhile. I tried adding another place (besides a road or two) and ‘no go’ …oh well… I’ll keep trying if I discover something missing.
