Eh Up! That’s the traditional Lancashire greeting – and ours to you.
We are @AdrianLunsong and me @PeteMHW.
You might have seen our announcement that we were hoping to co-host EuroMeetup2024 here in Manchester, UK. We are delighted to confirm that the dates and arrangements are now fixed. You can begin to look forward to meeting other Local Guides from all over Europe in the city that gave birth to the Industrial Revolution, Intercity railways, and the Information Technology Revolution – not to mention where Karl Marx and Friedrich Engles ignited the fire of socialism, and the atom was first split!
When: Thursday June 6th – Sunday June 9th 2024
Where: Manchester, UK
What: Here is the rough outline of what we will be doing;
Pre-event drinks (for those arriving early)
7pm Welcome registration and dinner
Time to be arranged: Farewell brunch
Time to be arranged: Explore more of Manchester (for those leaving later)
Of course, we'd love you to join in with as much as possible - but we do realise that that won't suit everyone - so you are more than welcome to drop in and drop out of any parts of the weekend as best suits you.
We love Madchester, so we’ll be taking the best of previous EuroMeetUps in Krakov, Ghent, and Munich, and adding our own Madchester flavour by injecting some of our own magic into this Manchester event! We are thinking really big and looking to have a very interactive and educational yet fun and sociable event that everyone can enjoy.
Oh wait, what is Madchester? Is that a typo?! Well, Madchester was coined during the music and cultural scene here in the 80s and 90s – and we’re still madly in love with the place and know you’ll fall madly in love with Manchester too – so welcome to our Madchester Meetup!
Very briefly, Manchester is served by Britain’s 3rd largest airport with flights from all over Europe and beyond, and also by quick train links from London (and Eurostar).
There is a great range of hotels, from ubiquitous but very clean and modern chain hotels, to upmarket top of the range establishments – and there is also a great range of Airbnb’s in the area. We would recommend finding one within walking distance of the city centre, or easy reach by tram. If you need advice please feel free to ask!
All expenses for travel, accommodation, meals, entrance fees etc will be borne by attendees themselves.
If you have any questions, please first check out the FAQ section of our previous post, but if they don’t provide the answer, feel free to ask in the comments below, and we will do our best to answer.
Interested? Mad about it? Definitely coming? Possibly coming? Fill in the form that you can find here and we’ll keep you up to date in the loop. Do note that there are two sections within the online form; the first is to register your interest for updates (useful for those who can’t confirm attendance just yet) and the second is to register as an attendee (i.e. you are definitely coming and have made or will make travel and accommodation arrangements!

Whoop whoop!! Well, that's the ball officially rolling now and there's no turning back @PeteMHW !! Good luck and I hope that we'll still be friends at the end of this event! 😂
To the Local Guides community, we are super excited about this.. so excited that we're still up at 1:23 AM working away on this post! We hope to put together a super duper event for all those that can attend and we can't wait to tell you more about it in the coming weeks! As mentioned, the More of Manchester series will be our way to promote the city as a holiday destination and every month, you'll get to learn a bit more about this wonderful city.
Besides that, we will also be posting more information about the event; a full agenda with the activities that we hope to put together and some other hush hush stuff (for now). And maybe there'll be some surprises once you've arrived as well...who knows... 😉. Anyway, stay tuned and do start thinking about the event especially if you're travelling from far, far away!

Still currently enjoying The Game Awards 2023, but also remembering Madchester 2019 ...and shockingly no alcoholZ to be seen on our table ...'yet' 😜
Note: Not everyone who attended this drinkup... I mean... meetup is seen in this photo ...they were probably visiting A&E sobering up 🙃
