The fourth part of the journey begins on Elbe Spring. The path crosses the Elbe meadow. It is a plateau in western Giant Mountains, part of which consists of upland peat bog. The journey continues to the rock formation Harrach stones. Interesting is the tumulus Hanc and Vrbata. This memorial commemorates the tragic event that has become 24 March 1913. At the international competition in cross-country froze to death Czech racer Bohumil Hanc and his friend Vaclav Vrbata, who tried to help Hanč in a snowstorm. The journey continues to Pančavskému waterfall. It is the highest waterfall in the Czech Republic. Water falls from a height of 148 meters. The journey continues to the Elbe hotel. Near the hotel Elbe is the Elbe cascading waterfall. Further rain dropping into the Elbe valley. 8 km-long glacier valley of the upper reaches Elbe not far from the fountain of one of the most visited in the mountains. Along the way we get into the valley of city Spindleruv Mlyn. Here our journey ends. The forth part is 11 km long.

Re: Tour of the Giant Mountains ridge.

History of the Giant Mountains
Inhabitation of the Krkonose
Given the severe weather and climate, no permanent inhabitation of the Krkonose in Prehistoric times has been proven. A change occurred at the end of the 13th century during the development of crafts, unseen before, providing man with technical and technological opportunities to conquer the nature of the mountains. Jan of Wallenstein built the seat of his family, Stepanice castle, and other villages around were established. In the 16th century the inhabitation line reached Benecko, Jestrabi and Horni Rokytnice. The Stepanice demesne which covered the whole Western Krkonose developed rapidly, with town centres being established in Vysoke nad Jizerou and Jilemnice. Later, the demesne broke up and was bought in smaller parts by the aristocratic Harrach family who later re-established it. The inhabitants made a living as flax growers, linen producers, weavers or glassmakers. They also processed ores, managed forests and produced textiles.

Legend and mythology of Krakonoš
Krakonoš or also Rýbrcoul (Rübezahl German, Polish Liczyrzepa) is a mythical mountain spirit, which in various forms protects the entire front of Giant greedy treasure hunters, poachers and other thieves. It is generally accepted that Krakonos in folk tales have appeared in the 15th and 16th century, first in Germany and later under more frequent the Czech minority in the mountains. First as an evil and almighty element, ruler of the winds and a demon punishing indiscriminately all who dared to try and unveil the mystery, destroying its mountains, whether it was any motive of curiosity.
About Krakonoš was plenty of tales and legends. It issued several books and publications.

Every year in Jilemnice Square Krakonoš is built out of snow.
