I've been to about a dozen as a civilian and traveling. Each has their own special memories and positives and negatives. It's difficult to narrow down a favorite.
I'm from the USA but I'd say my favorite country is Ireland (and Northern Ireland). It's beautiful, lots of history, and the people are wonderful. It's one place that makes me not want to return home.
Another favorite is England. I'm a history buff and there is a lot of history to study there and easy transportation to get to it. The downside is short of the accents being different and them driving on the "wrong" side of the road, it's so much like home that sometimes feels like it's not really a trip.
Other favorites on my list- Thailand, Philippines, Mexico, Canada, and China.
