Volunteering is great thing. I just love it!
There are many options to volunteer around the world. It depends on where you want to go though. 
I think it is easier if I give you a link to my travel blog, which is not finished yet but volunteering options I have been collecting for quite a while are there. 
Some of them I have experienced myself. Many of them are free.
